**HTC HD2 Thread**

Still amazed people like this phone: mine went back this morning :)

Because everyone has different tastes :D

I'm very tempted to get one and give it a go. If I decide I don't like it, I'll return it in the cooling off period. I just worry that it's going to be very hard to beat the iPhone as I'm very attached to it :D

You are very much in the minority.

What phones have you had previously, and what is your next planned one?

WM certainly isn't for everyone, but to say the device is bad is a flat out lie.

If you aren't willing to put in the effort to make the most of the phone's capabilities, and compare it's out-of-the-box state to that of the iPhone, then you are likely to think the phone sucks.

That's the thing - I KNOW it's better than the iPhone, I've played with my mates HD2 for about half an hour. It's just that I think I'd miss the app store and iTunes etc.

Apps that I'd really want on the HD

WunderRadio*
Shazam
Remote control for WinAMP/iTunes
eBay
Orb or other streaming media app

They're the apps I use regularly. I know Wundradio is available for HD2, but what about the rest?

Shazam is, as well as Midomi (same type of 'app').

Have no idea about the rest, but you just have to get used to the fact that not everything is in the same place like the iTunes store. For example, a quick Google for "windows mobile bluetooth itunes control" and the first link is a program that does just that, and is free.

Yeah it's so amazing isn't it!

List of things I found wrong/annoying in the first 10minutes:

Screen is shocking - inaccurate and super sensitive one minute and non responsive the next.

Home screen is bloated and the weather app either doesn't update at all (gg?) or has your location wrong to within 50miles.

Touch Screen is so wildly inaccurate that even after calibrating I can hold my finger still in say, IE, and the screen will move wildy around.
NB: I have very small fingers and on an iPhone keypad I can hit a tiny link without zooming in.

The whole OS is slow and clunky, much slower and clunkier than a 3GS for example - a pathetic testament to the 1ghz CPU and epics of RAM bundled to the handset.

The need for updates to things as basic as SMS is shocking - another clear indication that they have *rushed* the phone out and things are not as they should be. Also a pink camera phone being released? Lol? Nice one to miss that and then have to patch, idiots.

WM6.5 is raring it's head when you use installed applications - no, I don't want to have to try and hit a menu 50, 000 times because it was designed in mind for a stylus.

SMS is very slow loading even with < 100 messages in the inbox, this is to the point of wanting to smash the phone against the wall. Also, SMS's get stuck in outbox at total random (and this is within 3 days of owning the handset.)

The keyboard/input system is the most retarded thing I've ever used - who thought it was a good idea to incorporate a really bad T9 onto a smartphone in this way has gotta win a Darwin award this year...seriously. I don't expect to have to download a 3rd party keyboard app to be able to type something.

These are all things that I could be bothered to type off the top of my head, there are many, many more I could rant on about but can't be bothered. Honestly, if you like the device then fair play, but you clearly are missing out on the love the iPhone gives through it's slick hardware and UI. Ok it can't do everything, but it's certainly a lot better than this HD2 garbage - i'd even take an iPhone 2G over it.

To anyone thats got this phone on virgin. I cant receive or send MMS.

Rang them up and they dont have any setting available as theyve just got the phone themselves. Anyone else having problems? They were suprised it wasnt working out of the box..

You've obviously been very very heavily conditioned into using an iPhone. I haven't had any of your problems at all (apart from the SMS and pink camera obviously, which were patched within weeks of release and so no longer affect me or anyone else getting the phone) and I can type and load things way faster than my friend on his 3GS - he's a Mac fanboi as well and we regularly do "in the street" tests when we need to find something out for example, and the HD2 has won hands down every time.

Pretty sure it's unbranded mate.

I'm possibly getting one tonight if I can. I don't have a credit card, and therefor no credit score, so I might not be able to :(

If I do, I'll be getting it on that deal, using my iPhone 3G as a work phone :)

I dont own a CC and have never done anything with credit but they let me have it with £125 account credit

The iPhone is for people with the attention span of a fish, who want it all to be nice and simple. Windows Mobile requires a bit of geekery to perfect and Android is a balance of the two :)

Got to laugh ovr. we all have our opinions and we're all entitled to them but really this thread is for those who own or who are interested and perhaps thinking of owning said handset.

You obviously have had problems and you come across as someone who either gives up at the first hurdle or you simple clicked the buy button cause you liked the pretty picture on the phone website. okay im just joking but you seem to knock the phone at every opportunity when in all fairness anyone who spent 2 minutes searching the problems you mentioned would see that its all for the most part fixable.

Can you remember the launch of the iphone in 2007?. Did they have any teething problems?. How long was that phone out before 3g was enabled?. A flash for the camera or even recording video for peat sake which were on other phones at that time. I could go on and on but thats just some of the stuff off the top of my head that annoys me about that handset.

I got mine on virgin yester day, charged the battery with it turned off, put the sim in, selected virgin on the setup screen, then got a text from virgin saying your plan was active and internet browsing activated, had no problems sending or receiving.

Having used all manner of htc phones i can't get over how fast this is out the box, keyboard can take some getting used to though and can be over sensitive but i find just jabbing the word i want it picks the nearest 99% of the time, sometimes i find i drag my finger left or right off the key and it selects the wrong letter but i'm getting used to it.

Hence my Fisher Price comment ;) . They want spoon feeding...

Neither are true - the iPhone is very good IMO. I'm just getting sick of Apple and their stupid restrictions and domination on everything.

Got mine this morning... wow its big compared to the old Diamond... and this new screen is great! Proper sensitive! Im liking it... now I just need to get my number comverted across... until that happens I will be using the T-Mob sim in it! Yey for an unlocked phone :D
