HTC One vs Sony Xperia Z vs Samsung Galaxy S IV thread

?? So the Samsung is fine because you can apply a theme to remove their skin, whilst Sony is in the 'wrong' for applying their own skin?! Are you serious?

Sony is by no means perfect but what you are saying makes little sense. What is clear is that stock android is great, the further away you get from this = not good. Sony is the closest to stock of the non stock manufacturers, which is partly why I prefer Sony over others (at the moment).

Don't get emotional.

Samsung kept the multitasking UI 95% stock - just added a bar to the bottom with 3 buttons. It looks and functions just like aosp. They're notification bar has has asop battery and signal icons - do sony? No.

Sony have skinned nearly every area of Android!

Point is when you add a custom theme to Samsungs TW it will looks like AOSP. And it's easily done - get the point?

There is no custom theme for Sony's UI that can change the multitasking UI.

What are you talking about Kona? Sony's multitasking add on is no better or worse than Samsung's attempt. Both look like **** but at least they didn't mess up functionality like Sense 4 :p It's quicker to press home and select the app you want rather than find it in the multitasking menu... (fixed for Sense 5)

Samsung's is pretty much AOSP in the way it looks and functions:

lol :D

Both look the same to me....
4 recent apps, scroll up/down for the rest and a bar underneath for added touchwiz/Sony functionality.
Admittedly Touchwiz looks better now it's lost the comically large task manager/close all buttons :p I quite like the transparent Sony version, maybe they've got ott? Shame the bottom app bar/icons look like they've ripped from Windows 3.1 :D

Both are miles better Sense 4.

Not emotional at all just surprised!

Multitasking is a small part of the entire UI, the changes have been very light. the Multitasking on the Sony has indeed been changed of course. FUnction is exactly the same thankfully.

Genuinely, honestly I cant be bothered with ASOP/modding as is the case with 90% of owners. (you can do this with the Sony, there is a project on xda, I dont have time for that stuff!)

I would go for the Sony over the HTC, since i hate HTC Sense. Sense is a bloated pile of manure and i'd rather have Sony's tweaks to AOSP. As much as i'd like the S4, which should be a superb phone, they cant release drivers to stuff they dont own. And hampers development efforts by devs.

Really don't get why these skins are such a concern these days? They are all just as bad/good as each other, the important thing is that they are optimised well so performance and power efficiency is good and sense it probably the best skin when it comes to this (since V4). Sense was awful before V4, but it has much improved since then and more I see of sense V5, the better it looks.

Plus ever since ICS, you can now disable the majority of apps via the settings menu so they will never run in the background/use resources and won't be shown anywhere on the phone.

I'll be coming from a Desire HD, so I'm pretty sure whichever one of the HD phones i go for is gonna be a huge improvement in terms of screen quality :P

Just in case anyone hasn't seen this:

Sources: Galaxy S IV will 'definitely' be announced on March 14th

Earlier today, mobile-review's Eldar Murtazin suggested on Twitter that March 14th would see a "big announcement," implying that it would cause HTC to miss sales estimates on the One that is widely expected to be announced tomorrow. Murtazin made no mention of Samsung or the next-gen Galaxy S, but SamMobile — a site well-known for its Samsung leaks — followed shortly thereafter claiming that the tweet was indeed a veiled reference to the Galaxy S IV, allegedly tied to an event in New York City.

The Verge has now confirmed with sources familiar with Samsung's plans that March 14th is "definitely" the day that the Korean giant plans on revealing one or more new devices, one of which is presumed to be the Galaxy S IV. As SamMobile says, we are also hearing that the event will be in the US, though it's unclear whether carrier availability will be announced at that time.

Great thread Robbo! :D

We might complain about Samsung using plastic on their phones, and I for one am tired of it, but you have to admit that the build quality is pretty good. All the Galaxy series phones that I have owned do not creak and I haven't had a problem with the phone - not even the scary "Sudden Death!"

I think Samsung will go with their tried and tested formula of using covering their phone in plastic and it'll probably look similar to their last efforts, but it will sell by the bucket loads.

On to Touchwiz, I like what Samsung have added to Android and some may complain about the look of it, but that can be negated quite easily by rooting it and installing a custom ROM and theme ASOP style.

So you get the best of both worlds.....

To be honest, once the "X" phone is released and if it lives up to the hype that will be the phone to beat! :p

Google itself has said that it's developing a phone that will do things that not even a Samsung phone can undertake. July isn't too far away, we will see what happens soon enough! :D

Have you used Sense 5 much then? It's so lazy and misleading to call things like Sense 'bloatware' these days.

The HTC One would get my vote over the Xperia Z by a long margin. It will be interesting to see if the S4 will be able to compete, it will need to be special. I haven't been as excited about a device as I am about the HTC One for a long time.

I think I'll be keeping an eye on this as although I'm not due an upgrade for a few months the Xperia Z looks like it might be the sort of thing I'm after although I'd probably prefer if the screen was about 4" rather than on the larger side.
