I like HTC phones, I have the Ameo but finding it a pain now and wanting something smaller with the same functionalty. Been looking forward to the Xperia X1 but now we have this in the equation:

I dont really want integrated keyboard so this looks like a better solution.

What do you think?

Google the name for tons of videos. Reckons it will be out in June as well :)

Reasons why for me this is a definate fail:
  • 4GB internal memory, NO additional SD expansion slot. They think 4GB is enough for a new flagship model? Are they serious? The iPhone has 8GB, double the capacity, how they can only give 4GB and no room for expansion is beyond me. This instantly makes it next to useless as a serious media player.
  • No 3.5mm jack. No excuse for this nowadays, and make it useless as an MP3 player imo.
So yeah... despite a decent touchscreen and GPS functionality this is a complete no-go for me. It's a castrated device with one major shortcoming: the memory, and a minor but not insignificant shortcoming, the 3.5mm jack.

Also the lack of a decent on-screen keyboard a-la iPhone in Windows is a major drawback to any PDA phone without a QWERTY keyboard imo.

I'll wait for iPhone v2, the new HTC Raphael, or the Xperia X1 methinks.

Agreed with Richdog.

4GB internal memory is pretty criminal to be honest, what with the N95 and iPhone having 8GB as standard. Should be 8GB or 4GB plus SD expansion slot. Even then I'd be annoyed having to spend more money on increasing the storage capacity.

theres loads of decent after market keyboards to be fair

the 4gb thing wouldnt bother me but, you are right it should be more.

The annoying this is that the x1/raphael will prolly fix these issues but itllbe heavier and bulkier

why cant phone cos ever get it right in one package!!

I'd rather have a MicroSD slot and a 3.5mm jack than 4GB onboard tbh, I like being able to hot-swap and easily copy thing onto my SD card from device to device without the need for a pc.

Also, I could never go back to a phone without a fully qwerty keyboard, hahaha.

Still, looks good, but I'll hold out for the Xperia

the memory isnt an issue for me, i can happily swap things on it often as needed.
the biggy for me is the jack. i know you can get a converter but that is just poo.

might just have to wait for the iphone 2.

or, what about this new BT ToGo thing? comparable?

i think it looks great, has 3 different keyboards, to suit all, normal phonepad layout, 20 key i think, and full qwerty, so one handed use is fine without a stylus. i think the memory side is a slight letdown but not a major problem, still get plenty of mp3s and pictures on there. the front end and browser is much improved over standard win mo and looks quite swish. all in all i think its leap years ahead of the current batch of PPC phones currently out there looks wise, much less geeky.

Spot on, it looks great and very neat. Dont need loads of memory and a chunky keyboard, looking like the best option for me.

I like the idea of a basic flashy front end but the deeper functionality of windows mobile.

From an ameo user.

Ive been looking at this phone the past few weeks and i have to say it really does look the business. Im not that concerned about the storage space...4gb is plenty and i have a 16gb ipod touch for my mp3s. So thats the least of my concerns tbqh...the onscreen keyboard works well from what i have read and seen. This phone is possibly the best WinMo device that will be out at the moment.

I found an excellent site where the guy has got his hands on a pre-production unit and hes been testing it for the past 7 days....hes also put up videos day by day...hes now at day 7 of his review and seriously this phone is something else. The website in case anyone here wants to check it out is www.coolsmartphone.com. Just go into the forum section and you will find his day by day review along with the videos of his reviews. Quite good if you ask me and if u register, he will then answer your questions in his reviews.

Only problem im having at the moment is choosing between the diamond, the xperia x1 and perhaps the iphone v2...ive also got my eye on the new blackberry touchscreen phone that will be coming out later this yr according to what i have been reading on the net. So im in a bit of a dilemma...now that i know how good the diamond is, im waiting to see what the X1 is going to be like and also the new iphone but tbh i dont think im going to bother with the new iphone, especially if its going to have the same problems or limitations that the original iphone had.

Don't bother, it's rubbish. It's just basic windows mobile with an added clumsy panels interface.

It's a bit like a cover flow interface where you can add your own short cuts. The rest is just standard windows mobile.

The X1 probably has the better hardware, case feels very solid (metal materials) and slide out keyboard has a very smooth action.

I've got a Vario II with T-Mobile and I'm due a free upgrade in October.

What's the chances of them giving me a Touch diamond or a Raphael, do you reckon?.

I wouldn't mind having to pay a bit more instead of getting it "free" per sae.

The 4Gb issue would not bother me as I have a 2Gb memory card in my current Vario II and I've never came anywhere near to being lacking in space with it after a years useage.

Had a look at the TMobile website and there's no mention of either model anywhere.

I'm maybe being a bit "pre-emptive" here as far as this goes, but forgive me, been rather out of the loop so to speak on mobiles since I got my Vario II over a year ago.

Had a play with a mates iPhone last night and it was the first time I had seen one up close, was quite impressed.

Really??..do you know something that we dont??. I havent seen any reviews that have said its rubbish....Looking at what the Diamond can do, its apparent that Winmo 6.1 has come a long way compared to the earlier winmo devices. Im quite impressed with the Diamond myself from what i have seen and read...it looks like its going to be a popular phone. The only thing that interests me about the X1 is the fact that it has the arc slider keyboard but until i see some proper reviews, ill hold judgement on it. From the specs it looks pretty awesome but im dreading the price of it...knowing Sony it will cost a packet. So until they release a price for it, i wont be making any major decisions yet...my n96 8gb can tie me over till theres more on the X1.

The iphone v2 does seem interesting so will be paying attention to that, the original iphone is quite neat...mate of mine has one and its pretty impressive but as i said its just an ipod touch with a phone bolted onto it.

Space isn't the issue, it's the interface.

With my current E650, I take out the micro-sd card, put it into the USB adaptor, and plug in to my pc and a window pops open, allowing me to quickly copy whatever music/movies/shows I want.

The Diamond will force me to use Activesync to send data, and it is VERY slow :(
