HTC Vive

So anyone bought a Vive and regrets it, want to sell it to me? :D (wishful thinking :D)

Still no news on when the Logmein orders will get processed in the EU :(

I ordered 4hrs after they opened the shop. browser on my phone playing up with the site!

I've heard nothing yet and not even a sniff of a CC authorisation.

I'm on hols end of May...so it just needs to arrive before then.

Apparently I'm April Part 2

Turned up today and delivery address was missing bits - like the company name. Quite surprised it made it (deliver bloke wasn't happy, think he had been to most of the companies on the estate).

So be warned if you used the Company Name field when entering your Delivery Address. Looks like HTC are not passing it through to DHL (unless I got unlucky).

One thing I've wondered is because the Vive has a front facing camera can it be used for augmented reality stuff?

That AMD thingy does it with multiple cameras I think, though I've already forgotten the name of it. :/

I think that's where the future will/should ultimately go though, is one headset that can switch between AR - hopefully projected over your eyesight not overlaid on camera pass through - and VR with out compromising between the two.

So day 2 of owning the Vive, played a few more games, its amazing just how much of a difference being able to use your hands really makes to games. Even the initial reaction I had when I picked them up off the floor was mind blowing enough. One thing is for sure, if you play the likes of Space Pirate Trainer, Holopoint or AudioShield you will lose weight very quickly if that's your plan.

I guess that's a good selling point. Play yourself thin :)

I've just received an email saying my order is about to be finalised. Anyone know if this means it'll be sent out soon?

I got the Rift Dreamdeck demos working and was standing there just thinking so what do I do I can't touch anything :)

Still haven't got LT working but I'm not the only with that issue as this is an experimental patch currently.

Anyway I was seriously considering putting mine on Ebay to day as I've been struggling to find stuff to do apart from keep playing The Lab mini-games!

Then this morning I read about the Minecraft Vive mod and thought I'd give it a go despite the steps installing and compiling Java & Python plus I've never bought Minecraft apart from the Windows beta (which it won't work the by the way) so to stumped up for that.

OMG ... finally I have something with a bit of longevity to play with and the feeling of being IN Minecraft not just playing it on a screen is worth the hassle.

This is going to blow the minds of my niece and nephew, who like just most kids are a bit obsessed with playing/streaming it.

Tutorial vid with links and the mod page.

looking on reddit looks like a lot of people received this email, including me.

I've called barclaycard and they have put a note on the system...but they said it is unlikely to make a difference. they cannot intervene on fraud checks. Thankfully barclaycard have never declined a payment. My santander credit card however is useless and alerts on every payment over a few quid.

Still it will say HTC Corporation in the nameplate of the payment, so it doesn't look suspicious.

Yeah I was told the same by my bank every time I've had something declined, getting the block cleared is typically a 20 minute call unlike barclaycards SMS process, and if they block they give themselves upto 24 hours to actually call you so you basically have to call them if you want to get on with whatever purchase you were trying to make

Given the number of times I've had it since i started using the account I basically told them I've had enough and was leaving, it got escalated and it seems if you threaten this they can look at adjusting trigger limits

Apparently the earlier failures were triggered by a couple of factors, firstly the size and number of them they submitted all at once without any prior communication to the banks. Secondly despite collecting the CV2 numbers they didnt actually submit them meaning that it looked really suspicious that a company was trying to grab a large amount of cash with incomplete details. They did submit the CV2 when they retried but if the customer had not spoken to the bank and got it cleared in between the security block was still in place from the first attempt.

It is odd. I work in IT and have architected a number of systems working to pci standards and with experts in the field of PCI-DSS - I am by no means an expert but I know most of what it involves.

First off, storing the cv2 is an absolute no no, regardless of whether you encrypt it or not. I presume they have either tokenised or encrypted the card number we gave them. But interestingly their order look up option permits last 5 digits. Now my understanding, and this could have changed, is that you are only allowed to store the first 6 (BIN) and last four in plain text. So how they could implement an order lookup with last 5 I don't know.

They mentioned the SMS process whilst I was on the phone.

Will that process trigger when they try and auth the card ? I just have to reply YES or something the lady said.

Sounds good. As long as it isnt in the middle of the night!
