HUB: Intel 13700K vs AMD 7800X3D

Wow, Intel consumes an astonishing amount of power; that should be their absolute priority.
I find it odd that intel pulls so much more power over amd but its amd cpus that are burning up and taking the mobo with them.

Also the review was for gaming only, needs productivity workloads to show all round performance difference

An RTX 4090 and overclocked Intel chip is a lot heat to deal with. Definitely a system to break out in winter.

With a heavy overclock a 13900k might close the gap to a stock 7800X3D.

I ordered a power meter today, going to measure the whole system power on my 12900k playing tlou at 1080p. I will be majorly surprised if it shows over 450w system power. Hwunboxed shoes the 13700k at 620w. I'm willing to bet a grant his measurement is nonsense.

Do you have same gpu as hardware unboxed used in their video?

Like three 7800X3D chips failed in heavily overclock systems with BIOS’s painting outside the lines.

You should start a new thread about hardware unboxed shoes and his grants.

TPU had the 13700K averaging 89 watts (gaming) versus 49 on the X3D. X3D is definitely better (the best of this generation, by far) and that's very consistent across reviews, but 150-200 watts better? Nope. I'd expect running uncapped @ 1080p would have an influence, but even then, 150-200 watts difference is more like running the CPU @ full multi-threaded load.

I will admit the 200 watt over 7800X3D power consumption does look a bit odd, another at 150 watts.

The 13700K is also running 7200MT/s RAM, that's quite high, both the memory sticks and the IMC on the 13700K will be drawing a lot more power than if it was running at the stock 5600MT/s.

The 7800X3D sips power, but i'm suspect of the 13700K drawing more than 100 watts over it.

With that said lets move on :)

He was probably measuring power during the shader compilation, it takes around 20 minutes in tlou. Still 270w is absurd but I guess vrm and power supply loses played a part there. Still he should have mentioned that although the 13700k was pulling 40% more power, it also finished the task 40% faster making it as efficient

The 13700K also use quite a lot more power, no really, this is total system consumption with a 4090 so for a CPU to use over 100 watts more power in these games is quite staggering
this is even more remarkable if you consider 7800X3D is making 4090 work 10-15% harder. GPU is doing more work, using more power and delta is still massively in AMD favor
