***Hudl2***

I just watched a youtube review which shows a micro USB port on the bottom edge.

Would require for it to support OTG to work. Will be a lot of hard work porting Windows to it though, can't really see a way of getting it to work (maybe somehow flashing via fastboot if that's even possible?). Or unless x86 tablets actually functions like PCs with BIOS and stuff...

I popped into the local Tesco at lunchtime to grab a sandwich and noticed they had an end of isle display with a couple of Hudl 2's. Had a quick play and unfortunately came away disappointed.
The display looked fantastic and build quality looked good, but performance looked shocking. They were running some slide show demo software, but you could dismiss it with the "try it now" button and instantly it looked poor. Dismissing the demo software to go to the home screen was a jerky, laggy transition and once there just swiping between the home screens was just as laggy.
It may be the demo software being poorly implemented causing issues, but as a quick experience of a new tablet it was not a good first impression.

This was in the Coventry Cross-Point superstore, but I would guess all big Tesco's will have displays up now.

And reading up, the bios/bootloader would still need to be hacked apart.

Yeah, that's the big one.
Otherwise you'd just do the same to every Android tablet and put on Windows RT, which obviously you can't, or Android onto the Surface.

What you said about "Just installing Windows" was just so wrong.

Can't you just root an Android device and stick a new version on yourself. Or root it and stick a vanilla non branded version of kitkat on?

I've ordered on anyway. Used some of our vouchers and got it for £29.

Doesn't work like that. Each Android version usually requires a different set of drivers to work properly with the device, and not everyone usually gets these drivers ready. Not to mention the people working on bringing AOSP Android to the device only have open-source drivers to work with. The original Hudl had a very small modding community as Rockchip was pretty stiff on the drivers for the SoC.

What you said is so wrong. Atom is not arm and has nothing to do with WinRT. It is x86. Just utter LOL at your nonsense. Unlike RT x86 comes with most drivers.
If it wasn't for the closed bootloader, it should be as easy as installing windows.

Unlike putting arm onto x86:rolleyes:
Or moving winrt to different hardware, which would need to be recompiled with the correct drivers etc

I know perfectly what I'm on about.

You know on Android tablets, you flash new ROM's etc? I mean flashing them with images of Windows RT (ARM) which you can't. I was taking your "It should be just so simple" and extrapolating. A Nokia 2520 runs a Snapdragon like an Xperia Z2 tablet, but one can't just whack Windows RT on the tablet despite them both being ARM and basically the same. Or an Nvidia Shield (Tegra 4) with a Windows RT Image.

Taking it further, there's a few Intel CPU's kicking about in tablets/phones (x86) you can't put any of those on Windows (I probably should have gone with that example, but I didn't except anyone to be as weird as you)

Also, WinRT means Windows Runtime for most people.

Lol except know where was I talking about arm. Your whole post was stupid and irrelevant.

You don't need to have been talking about ARM. The whole point is "Just as easy as" doesn't apply. As far as I know, for all the Intel Android tablets that are x86, none can be put on Windows.

Oh look what I corrected before you even posted.
And it is relevant as your entire post went on about arm. the whole arm thing was stupid I never said and I don't expect for that to be transferable.
It was just you being your normal self.

On topic, I actually picked one up this morning :D

Got "The dreamy white one", or so it says on the box, to replace my 7" Advent Vega Tegra Note 7 (try saying that ****ed).

So far, so good - though I picked up the screen protector in Tesco, and it might be a tad thick, as light touches sometimes fail to register - didn't try it without though, so who knows; could be the tablet!

Anyway - here's to those clever folks who will soon (I hope) root it, so I can start slapping all the usual guff onto it; as I like a play with these things.

Well, it's fine for my use - browsing, catch up, music and the odd game. The performance boost over my Tegra 7 is noticeable, so I'm a happy camper :)

Edit: it also seems that the screen protector is the cause of missed inputs, when using a light ish touch. Picked up a 'soft touch' case for mine instead, happy with this setup.

pretty impressed with it, it feels much more like a premium product than the first hudl,

first thing i done was download nova launcher and make that the default, which also removed all the stupid crap the tesco launcher had on my home screens,

then i went in app manager and uninstalled any stupid tesco updates and disabled the programs apart from blink box, nova launcher got rid of the stuttering on menus etc its nice and smooth now and it runs nova 3 game smooth which is impressive :)

much better speakers than the first 1 and the screen is pretty good, as is the performance, well worth the money imo :)

oh mines purple with the purple case as cant get orange in shops which was my first choice lol

runs the colin mcrae andriod game pretty good as well and sounds awesome on the speakers, oh u get a tenner to spend on blink box, and their book store etc much better vouchers this time around :)

bear in mind thanks to been kitkat theres no apps to sd function built in and only 9.2 gig of the internal memory is free out the box.

if any one is like i was and swaying on either to get one do your self a favour and do it, as tesco have really out done themselves :)
