** HUGE PRICE DROPS - PLANTRONICS GAMECOM 380 and 780 GAMING HEADSETS **

We only have a 380 testing sample sadly. The more expensive set will be superior but only if you want the surround sound capabilities. As we are pretty much UK first on these, it is unlikely that there will be any reviews yet :(

Do the 380's have any surround capabilities at all?

Also, can the 380's be connected via USB?

380s are analoge, hence the price point. they are not surround sound but are a great stereo headset for build and sound quality.

for surround and usb you need the 780

Not a fan of USB headsets, but I've been itching to find out how good surround sound can be through a pair of these. At this price it would be silly not to - ordered :)

would you recommend roccat kave 5.1 over the 780?
It depends what you want from a headset. The Kave offer analogue surround sound so will be a lot clearer and can be paired with a good sound card to offer even better quality.

The build quality of both headsets is very good but I would say the Kaves are a little better built and more rugged. That goes without saying really as they are a lot more money.

ihear you know a lot about headsets!

:D

good to hear, looking forward to hearing your thoughts on the set. :)

Should be getting the Xonar DG (mine died :() and 380s that I ordered later on tonight, will let you know how I get on in BF3 with virtual surround. Always preferred it to actual surround with other headphones so will see how this compares.

Just ordered a pair of 780's as a complete impulse buy after seeing this thread. Price seems awesome. Thanks OCUK!

Maybe installing the software on my Samsung 700G7A was a bad idea.

Apart from the Windows startup sound, any attempt to play a sound crashes the application - WMP, iTunes, Firefox - whatever. It launches a process (soundplayer.exe) which won't even terminate via task manager.

Whether this is a conflict with the Dolby software already on the Samsung, or whether the device itself conflicts with the onboard Realtek I don't know. The BIOS settings are very limited on this, no way of disabling the Realtek anyway. Not that I would - I do like to use the speakers occasionally.

Will try hitting things with a big hammer (ok, uninstalling stuff) - in the meantime, halp?

(Oh, and Windows won't shut down either. Endless "Shutting down..." loop.)

(EDIT) Rolled back to before installing software with no problems. Tried WMP/iTunes/Firefox (Youtube thread on here) via the speakers and all was fine. Plugged in Plantronics and allowed Windows to do its thing - back to where I started. Any audio access and process freezes. Must be a conflict with the onboard sound I guess. Any ideas?

Yeah, exemplary service from DPD too :)

I think my problems may be solved. I'm running a selective startup, bypassing lots of crap that I didn't want running anyway - the usual 'helper' programs and the Realtek manager.

Maybe even switching the phones from a USB 3 port to a USB 2 did the trick - who knows.

Very odd, do you have another system you could try them in? I find it strange that a USB headset would cause this.
