"Hundreds" of Met Police armed response officers hand in the weapons after colleague charged with murder - Chris Kaba Shooting aftermath.

Has anyone mentioned that Chris Kaba had previous firearm offences and had a four year juvenile sentence where he spent three years in a young offenders home ?

On that basis there was credible intelligence to stop him and he failed to stop . I’m sorry he got what he deserved.

I hate the police with a passion but in this instance officer NX121 has my sympathy along with 100 officer handing there fire arms tickets . Support your officers for god sake .
They will get the public's support when they stop hiding ***** in their ranks which thankfully they appear to be at least trying to rectify.

on here that we might never know.

we will know unless it's terrorismtourism / security related ? justice has got to be seen to be done, the reading out of sentences in court is a bit ridiculous if you can't appraise the whole case -
generally, are there any proposals for full USA style court coverage (lets get rid of the pantomime/grandtanding of House of commons tv too)
- like the bianca williams stuff - are we meant to concur that it's racist without seeing the initial video section she hid.

If someones driving a car at you, you can safely assume they're trying to kill you.
If they are a couple of metres away and doing 5 mph? I’m not saying the officer didn’t believe his or other lives were in imminent danger but it is not as clear cut as you say. I assume this will be part of the officers defence in court when the prosecution will have to prove beyond reasonable doubt that he didn’t. The CPS must have something if they believe they can make the charges stick.

So armed police are allowed to forsake their duties when 'one of their own' may or may not have have killed someone for no reason?

I mean the officer in question is out on bail and gets to be anonymous, at least wait until a verdict before deciding you're above scrutiny.

Sounds like another one of those dodgy met units.

What part of volunteers are people struggling with here?

I wasn't too fussed (prefer if we had enough normal staffing...) with the Armed Forces helping out with non-combat roles during Covid but this is ridiculous they should never be considered for civilian policing roles, ever.

Yeah I don't like this at all. This is just not what they're for, and the fact they're not used to the role and won't be trained in the same way police are seems like a big risk factor to me...

Hopefully the assistance will essentially be in a purely reserve capacity, only to be called on if there's an active terrorist or something, but still...

Armed forces might be the right option if a low level war were to break out and there aren't really any other options (eg The Troubles), but even then have to be very careful how they're used, as we've got examples of things that go wrong when they aren't used wisely...

Purely subjectively, just gives really bad vibes too.

We will have to wait to see what additional info comes to light and its obvious we cant have police killing people at random. Who knows what the armed officers intentions were though, maybe he was racist or maybe he **** himself with car being driven at him and made a split second decision.

Very hard to feel sympathy for CK though, sounds like an absolute charmer.

Implicated in a shooting incident the day before he was shot.
Jailed in 2019 for firearms offences, released then jailed again for driving an uninsured car while carrying a knife.
Served with a domestic violence protection order relating to the mother of his unborn child.
Member of the 67 rap group which is designated as a criminal gang, which has been involved in county lines operations.

Feels like a never ending cycle with the children being born into this environment, not sure what the solution is if any.

All we need is another 5000 or so of these incidents in London and society will be back on track for a generation.

:D

Pointless post IMO.

Everything can be considered a dangerous weapon, therefore every situation should require someone to be shot.
If that's what you want to do you do you, i'm not trying to "fix" a specific outcome on a situation that has multiple possibilities.
I took issue with you saying if a broken leg is worth a life - you have no way of determining if that was the trade, which is why I gave the 2 opposite options of being hit by a car - death or being completely unharmed. Tbh, I underestimated the worst possible outcome as multiple deaths could occur.
Then you decide that no judgement calls should ever be a thing and we should just shoot everyone.

Narrator: None of this happened.

No wonder the cops were a bit twitchy
