Hungarian Grand Prix 2010, Hungaroring Circuit - Race 12/19

Question: Why did Vettel back so far off of Webber during the safety car in-lap? Was this so that Webber could pull away or was it brain fade by Vettel. If it is the former, then effectively, Vettel took one for the team.
I think the latter. Would Vettel, one of Webber's bestest westest mates evar, "take one for the team"? I think the team realised Vettel's race was compromised, would probably get penalised so utilise Vettel to maximise Webber's chances. If Vettel can't lead the championship and Webber can might as well do what you can to increase Webber's chances.

Here's the safety car regs:

40.9
The safety car shall be used at least until the leader is behind it and all remaining cars are lined up behind him.

Once behind the safety car, the race leader must keep within ten car lengths of it (except under 40.11 below) and all remaining cars must keep the formation as tight as possible.

40.11
When the clerk of the course decides it is safe to call in the safety car the message "SAFETY CAR IN THIS LAP" will be displayed on the timing monitors and the car's orange lights will be extinguished This will be the signal to the teams and drivers that it will be entering the pit lane at the end of that lap.

At this point the first car in line behind the safety car may dictate the pace and, if necessary, fall more than ten car lengths behind it.

In order to avoid the likelihood of accidents before the safety car returns to the pits, from the point at which the lights on the car are turned out drivers must proceed at a pace which involves no erratic acceleration or braking nor any other manoeuvre which is likely to endanger other drivers or impede the restart.

As the safety car is approaching the pit entry the yellow flags and SC boards will be withdrawn and, other than on the last lap of the race, replaced by waved green flags with green lights at the Line. These will be displayed until the last car crosses the Line.

Can anybody explain how the driver's helmet visor strips come off, as they have 4-5 I can't imagine how only one comes off at a time?

I always thought the bits on the end were really fat, and therefore easy to just get hold of and pull, and they have alternate sides, eg left side first, then right, so they can feel which side it is, and the ones underneath can't come off at the same time cos its on the wrong side and they can't get hold of it (didn't explain that very well sorry! - I know what I mean :D )

They'll be attached to the helmet by a small pole on each side, you can fold the tab of the bottom one (it also has a hole in it) over the pole, and then attach the next one. That way you can stack as many as you want and only the top ones tab is actually hanging out.

Pull-off tabs on alternate sides I guess.

Makes sense now, cheers :)

I said last season and the start of this season he makes too many mistakes. I didn't expect him to get so many poles and not win one of them. :D

I was saying it last season too :p I'm totally amazed by the "rep" that Vettel has. He got lucky in the rain at Monza once when everyone else screwed up their qually. That's it.

23 seconds gap lead from 1st place webber to 2nd place alonso. That has to be the largest leader gap in the whole season so far?
