Hungarian Grand Prix 2012, Budapest - Race 11/20

If a driver has a problem on the grid immediately prior to the start he must raise his arm and the start will be aborted. A new formation lap, which will count towards the race distance, will then be completed.

It's absolutely blindingly obvious, your continued denial does nothing more than cement your position as the most massive Schumacher fanboy ever to have lived

Haha! :D

F1 is serious business though and denying the sky is blue is needed sometimes...

It's the former. A 69 lap race would not be long enough under F1 regs.

It was still a 70 lap race.

If you read the Sporting Regulations, it actually says:

38.11a If, after returning to the starting grid at the end of the formation lap a problem arises, the following procedures shall apply...

...all cars able to do so must complete a further formation lap whilst the car which developed the problem is moved into the pit lane...

...Every time this happens the race will be shortened by one lap.

Techincally until the start lights have completed their normal procedure, the race has not officially begun.

Tell it was a dull race if we're only talking about MS and how he didn't line the car up right.

did sky show the press conference?
sounds like he had kimi covered and was just doing enough.

Yeah easily, the teams are now well aware or where exactly to push on a circuit and that keeping a smaller gap is better than a 5 second gap. You then quickly destroy the followers tyre.

These tyres suck.

Alonso did exactly the same last race and he often drops back from the guy he's chasing rather than chew tyres being 0.8 behind. He saves his tyres and pushes when he gets clean air. It's just not worth having a hard fought battle.

Again these tyres suck :D

He didn't have much choice about running wide tbh...

As much as I dislike Pastor, I thought he only got that penalty on the back of things that have gone before. He clearly understeers and it's hardly his fault or worthy of a penalty.

Oversteers and corrects, the steering wheel is pointing left on a right hand corner.

It wasn't a bad move, just badly misjudged. Went in far to hot. Again...

Yeah, its not so much about loosing the rear a bit, but more that he has again stuck the car up the inside and been unable to hold onto it.

He shouldn't be shocked by the penalty, he should be thinking about not getting into that position race after race.

Hopefully Grosjean has leant to keep his nose clean. He is a nice chap off track and deserves to do well. I wonder if Ferrari will be eyeing him up over Perez.. /off to the silly season thread :)

Yes sorry Oversteer, I'm trying to remember recently others that have done similar and got away with it. His reputation will start to cause him issues now.

As much as I like to see him get his long overdue desserts I hate seeing penalties for simple racing incidents like that.

Just caught the highlights on Sky F1 HD.
Have taken a few photo's of the screen. Sadly not perfect, but show it pretty well.

Oh, they are quite sizeable images too. Haven't resized them at all. All clickable thumbnails.

Big gap, yellow flag waving as well.

Closer shot

Full grid - again the green flag, and the yellow being waved. And a large gap again.

Closer in again - same big gap.

After everyone else had gone - looks like he is across the line of the pit box, but he hasn't moved. So he stopped while straddling the line?

His back wheels are in 19th grid slot.

Edit those grid markings look very close, maybe just camera angle

Button unhappy with strategy for hungary.

But I thought according to OCuk F1 that Jenson drives the strategy in the team and Lewis does as he's told? If that was Lewis people would be saying he should have made the call to stay out if he was keeping pace on those tyres.

;)

In all seriousness Buttons title is now over, it's time to throw the weight behind Lewis. They can only let Button win races to take points away from others. They can't take the title from this far back having two cars take points off each other while ferrari run one car. What I can see them doing though is Alonso having a DNF and them allowing Button to win ahead of Hamilton :D

He won the first race, take away those first 25 points and for the other 10 races he's average 5.1 points per race. Of course that's not all his fault but he's hardly had worse luck or points losses than Hamilton this year. His qualifying has been poor and I think looking at the title in the midway break they can no longer afford to have him take any points away from hamilton.

I think Hamilton can still take the title this year, the qualifying pace is there and it's being shown regularly that you can control not only your own pace at the front but the tyre degradation of the car behind you by having track position. Hamilton can get that, Button for the majority of the season cannot.

I think if they wait until it's mathematically impossible to win, they will hand the title to Alonso or Vettel.
