Hungarian Grand Prix 2012, Budapest - Race 11/20

Mclaren will not put full effort behind Hamilton until button can't mathematically win, so alonso will take the title.

My worry is Vettel again. I just don't see any real pace in the dry in that Ferrari. I also don't see him continuing to finish every race. If he has a dnf and Vettel/Webber or Hamilton win I don't see Alonso taking the title.

He can take the front row in unusual circumstances and then control his tyres and make use of the clear air but that Ferrari is unable to do anything when he's not on the front row. He's racing for 5th or less. I think Alonso is going to lose far too many points in the 2nd half of the year sadly, unless it rains a lot :D

Anyway It's an exciting championship and if Hamilton can get a few more big finishes it could become amazingly close and nervy :)

dont think vettel is going to catch grosjean.

Vettel doesn't pass people on track.

Amusing statistic: the most drivers from other teams that Lewis Hamilton has passed to win a GP is three. This is the same number of drivers from other teams that Sebastian Vettel has passed to win a GP in all 22 of his race victories combined.

Although I understand what you are trying to get across it's not really his fault that he had a spell with such car dominance that he could win easily from lights to flag.

Just the same as MS hardly ever overtook anyone on the 00's when he had car supremacy and fuel stops with decent tyres. They did a vast majority of their moves in the pitlane. They took advantage of the car and the rules as they were.

I do find that 3 passes in 22 wins hard to believe though :D Surely that stat is wrong.

Yeah, I mean come on, how stupid of him to be faster than everyone on Saturdays. :p

The 3 passes thing might be right. I can't really think of any other than Brazil 2010?

JB didn't actually come to a stop, he did a drive though to see how it would feel in case he fancied a move :D

That was such an odd moment. Which race was it I can't recall? :p

Re: The Vettel stat, however subjective and irrelevant that might actually be with how the car was - it's an interesting one :)

As for Schumacher.... Clearly not his fault at all, it was erm... uh. voodoo magic.

Dunno, seems plausible to me, pretty much all Vettels wins were:

*Qualy on Pole
*Good start, get 20ish second lead.
*Pit, maintain place, or just sit behind other cars till they pit.
*Collect 25 points.

The button video mentioned above:

Those RBR mechanics must have been like... WTF!

Lol, still not Schumachers fault!

did i say that?

someone said kobayashi came to a complete stuop in that empty box and then he slowly creeped forward.

schumacher must have assumed kobayashi was stopping in his box so came to a halt.

for some unknown reason he fails to notice kobayashi has moved forward.

are the start lights on the steering wheels display or something? which would explain why he didnt notice but its still his fault for not being more aware of what was going on around him

a fault that caused a chain of events

fault > speeding > puncture

apparently because the speeding was before the race had started he should have been given a fine and not a penalty but we cant put the speeding and puncture down to " bad luck" because he was the one to set of the chain reaction.

undoubtedly schumachers worse race weekend ever.

but i wont jump on the bandwagon calling for his retirement when he qualified 3rd for 2 races just a couple of weekends ago.

if he was past it he wouldnt be able to do that in the wet while everyone is struggling

I assume in your furious attempts to deny Schumacher had stopped in the wrong box yesterday you missed the discussion around this point?

Button unhappy with strategy for hungary.

But I thought according to OCuk F1 that Jenson drives the strategy in the team and Lewis does as he's told? If that was Lewis people would be saying he should have made the call to stay out if he was keeping pace on those tyres.

;)

In all seriousness Buttons title is now over, it's time to throw the weight behind Lewis. They can only let Button win races to take points away from others. They can't take the title from this far back having two cars take points off each other while ferrari run one car. What I can see them doing though is Alonso having a DNF and them allowing Button to win ahead of Hamilton :D

He won the first race, take away those first 25 points and for the other 10 races he's average 5.1 points per race. Of course that's not all his fault but he's hardly had worse luck or points losses than Hamilton this year. His qualifying has been poor and I think looking at the title in the midway break they can no longer afford to have him take any points away from hamilton.

I think Hamilton can still take the title this year, the qualifying pace is there and it's being shown regularly that you can control not only your own pace at the front but the tyre degradation of the car behind you by having track position. Hamilton can get that, Button for the majority of the season cannot.

I think if they wait until it's mathematically impossible to win, they will hand the title to Alonso or Vettel.

Bit premature imo. If Jenson wins at Spa and Lewis has a DNF Lewis will be an AMAZING 17 points ahead. Wow :o

i was furious? lol right... you have real issues and your attitude towards my posts shows this

i thought you had me on ignore anyway?

Whatever the outcome, this can't be good for Schumacher's future at Mercedes.

He's been unlucky, yes, but its got to the point where it's just outright embarrassing for a driver of his calibre. I used to laugh out loud when the race director would cut to his car being wheeled in to the garage, but now I just feel sorry for him :(

If there's something that will demoralise your season.. it's this level of reliability / errors.
