Hungarian Grand Prix 2012, Budapest - Race 11/20

Sounds like rather than trying to find specific wording that isn't going to leave any loop holes, the FIA are going to make all the teams go back to engine maps they were using before they started 'bending' the rules, and force them to stick to those.

Gets the result I suppose. If nobody was using EBD style maps in the first 4 races, then this prevents them using them for the rest of the season.

They are going to have to clarify the rules for next year though.

The 'first 4 races' thing makes me think that RBR were starting to experiment with these maps as early as the Spanish GP.

If you mean that the cars don't generate as much downforce at Monaco as at other tracks then you're most likely right, as at other tracks they will generate a lot of downforce by doing 200mph with standard wings.

At Monaco though they would generate marginally less downforce, but with a lot less speed by using bigger wings which are specially designed for Monaco only - and possibly Valencia/Singapore as they're other low speed, high downforce circuits.

An Monaco IS a high downforce circuit:

Monaco's street circuit places very different demands on the cars in comparison to the majority of the other circuits used during a Championship season. The cars are set up with high downforce, not as is popularly believed to increase cornering speeds, as many of the corners are taken at such a low speed to negate any aerodynamic effect, but instead to shorten braking times and keep the cars stable under acceleration.

When a circuit is described as a 'high down force track' its in relation to the down force generating ability of the aero bits fitted to the cars (i.e. barn door wings), not a measurement of the actual forces generated on track.

Odds on Sky Bet are.. 8/1 for Jenson to win. 4/1 for Lewis to win.

9/4 McLaren Winning Team.

Tempted to stick a Tenner each way on Jenson and Lewis. £40 worth of bets. Potential of £184 returns.

for drag though not downforce.
mercedes has **** downforce and it shows in medium/highspeed corners regardless of the fastest qualifying time at monaco

Eh?

If they wanted to increase drag not downforce, they could mount the wing elements vertically - no downforce at all then, just maximum drag.

You're now just talking complete guff. 100% pure botty-burps. It's just like listening to Christian Horner. ;)

I know where he's going with it though. The downforce at Monaco is used for stability and braking, rather than cornering speeds due to the low cornering speeds.

It is still downforce though, regardless of how its used on the track.

Monaco is a high downforce track and in their Monaco configuration Mercedes were quick. Hungary requires a similar setup to Monaco, so its not to much of a stretch of the imagination to assume Merc might be quick there too...

But you just can't win with arknor. If you even hint at a bad word against Merc or Schumacher he's down your throat with cherry picked stats like a terrier down a rabbit hole. Yet when you suggest Mercedes and Schumacher might do well, he does the same thing?

This whole thing has come from people suggesting Schumacher might do well! I think he just likes to argue.
