Hungarian Grand Prix 2014, Hungaroring Race - 11/19

Massa really needs to drive with a bit more preservation in mind. Not everything is his fault, but he's definitely contributing hugely. Williams would have a surefire 2nd in constructors if he hadn't binned it from the top positions a handful of times.

It's like for him to drive fast he has to drive recklessly!

Says a lot for those drivers who can get the results and the overtakes done, yet keep it calm and collected.

Alonso/Vettel/Ricciardo say Hi!

Hamilton is just on his way, he clipped a door on his way in.

Hamilton is a strange one, sometimes he seems to drive recklessly and sometimes not, but he is usually always quick... Think it's more to do with where his head is at... There was the season he and Massa couldn't stop bashing into each other after all :p

Hulkenberg is always solid and doesn't seem to get caught up with much, he and Alonso scoring points every race so far... Imagine that consistency if they were team mates! :p Bottas also seems really good this year.

Bottas has just has a few good results in a row, so people see him as the next messiah. The Williams is a good car, and Massa's inability to keep it in one piece is inflating Bottas' stature as a driver.

That's why I felt the need to add 'this year' :p

I think people get excited because the thought of another 'top driver' is exciting but only time will tell :)

Well at least Bottas has shown that when he does have a good car, he turns it into a good result, rather than a pile of broken carbon fibre and a bucket of excuses.

Talking to a Williams employee a few weeks back he was certain Bottas will be a future champion. Which prompted me to ask when is he leaving :p he's a robot in the car in comparison to Massa.

I'm not entirely convinced by Bottas yet. He and Massa were trading blows earlier in the season but he seems to be eking out ahead of Massa now. In one sense, it means he can raise his game, which bodes well if he goes up against a stronger teammate, but in another sense it means he has been leaving a bit on the track, something an Alonso (even in that Minardi!) or young Hamilton never did.

Perhaps for a relative new-comer the former approach is the better one, but I still can't see him mixing it with the elite. Given a car advantage I could see him getting one - think Button, (almost) Massa, (almost) Irvine and Frentzen in 99 or Rosberg in 82, but with an Alonso, Hamilton or even Vettel (despite his season) alongside him, I really couldn't see him coming out on top. He's very good though, and still improving. He's 24 though, so not a super-young up-and-comer anymore.

RG and Bottas are ones to watch if they get lucky with car choices.

Hamilton lucky..
Alonso unlucky

Not just luck of course. But make wrong choices and you had it

Lay off - it's not easy for Rob Smedley to remote control Felipe from the pits, you know. ;)

Does anyone else think Mercedes are mixing the FlowVis a bit thick? It doesn't appear to actually be 'flowing' anywhere?
