Hungarian Grand Prix 2014, Hungaroring Race - 11/19

I have to say I don't really get the Button hate. Is it more about winding up smr and FrankJH than real opinions on JB as a driver?

As utajoker says, looking good for Lewis. I'd like to see him get pole (it's about time he had a good qualifying) and win this one.

Unless you get right up close to the car then it's sometimes difficult to see how the paint has dispersed

From what I saw it was flow vis on the wing that was effectively under the nose rather than across the whole wing, so most of that air is being diverted under the car, around that deflection board the Merc has on the underside of the nose. We wouldn't see the results in normal circumstances, they'll be jacking the car up and looking at the paint on the floor and that deflection board.

Brundle and Ted were wondering if Alonso has free roam with his contractual obligations at Ferrari and didn't mention that he does have a get out clause which states that if Ferrari don't make 3rd in the Constructors he can walk. I'm not sure if he's able to leave on any other grounds before his contract ends.

They got that from the comments that Christian Horner had made. I can never see Alonso going back to Maclaren, firstly the car is worse than the Ferrari and secondly he threatened Maclaren with exposure.

It's a bit of a pointless clause if there isn't anywhere else for him to go. Mclaren, okay he might have the chance to negotiate more money even though historically Ferrari will pay way more than Mclaren. Williams, okay, I'd quite like to see Massa's face if Williams get 2nd in the constructors and Williams get shot of Massa for Alonso....

Seriously imagine the meeting, they call Massa in and say, "Sorry Felipe, Alonso is faster than you, do you understand the message".... :p

If you were Alonso, you wouldn't go to Mclaren for Honda, give it a year to see where the engine is. You don't want to sign a 2-3 year contract and find out it's the worst of 4 engines(won't be surprised if it is). You might want to go to Red Bull, but Red Bull have little reason to ditch Vettel after a single off season(that could change if he was meh next season also) and Ricciardo has done a great job in that car, looking a lot of potential there.

Williams though could be a real possibility, at the expense of... as it stands and performance to this point, Massa, however afaik Williams have a pretty small budget compared to Ferrari/Merc/Mclaren/RBR, so their chance of competing long term is questionable.

The only reason would be if he felt Honda were going to produce a stronger engine than his other options, and we're not privy to that information.

There is the Dennis factor, but we've no idea if that's water under the bridge with Hamilton having left and Dennis having time away from things and perhaps looking back.

I think if Alonso feels he has a better option, he will move. It's that simple. His contract will be riddled with clauses - it's bound to be - he could have demanded what he wanted in his negotiations.

He could sign a 2-3 year contract with McLaren/Honda with the same get out clauses he has now, if it turns out to be a dog of a combo, then he can bail.

I think he would drive McLaren forward nicely. They've been restructuring, so hopefully will move forwards over the winter, and let's face it, as experienced as Button is, and as much as we take the ****, his is usual complaint is "there's so much oversteer/understeer", which is next to useless for developing the underlying performance of a car. He might be brilliant in the team meetings, feeding back the intricacies the engineers need, but we seldom hear that over the radio. I think back to this race in 2009 when he commented "how have we made the car this bad guys" or words to that effect.

Magnussen might be the guy they need in the future, and he's starting to warm up nicely on the track, but he won't be an engineers dream yet.

Alonso would change that in an instant and they'd have his sheer determination, relentlessness and consistent points collection on top

It *could* work mutually... but really it relies on Honda producing a strong engine from the off to have any chance at all. Alonso doesn't have another 5 years to gamble away to get that third title. I mean, they're more than a second behind currently, and that would an awful lot of belief to think they'll make much of that up anytime soon and would be one heck of a gamble for him.

In my heart, I'd love to see him at Williams (because I want them to remain towards the front), and while it's not impossible, it would take a brave, brave man to bet on it.

In my head, I think he'll stick at Ferrari for another year unless a shock space opens up at Mercedes (which isn't out of the question with some of the friction between Hamilton and Rosberg with the meaty end of the season still to come) or Red Bull (despite Renault's failings this year, he's bound to feel they've got the strength in depth to produce a car capable of winning, and Renault will most certainly have improved next year)

Yeah, just seems to be getting more frequent / heavier recently…

Only because JB's under performance gives us lots of ammunition :p. And all the Vettel hate has petered out now that hes not up front. People get bored, we need to entertain ourselves :D

Regarding Alonso, I think you need to look beyond F1. Alonso isn't going to be round much longer, so what options are there after F1 if he moves teams? With Ferrari rumoured to be looking at Le Mans, is it worth him sticking with the team and then moving over to head up their Le Mans team, rather than gamble on jumping ship to someone who can't really offer him anything outside of F1 when he retires?

Though he was saying all the right things, I'm not sure he sounded genuinely tempted when he was at Le Mans. He was interested in what was going on, but I didn't get the impression he was falling in love with the idea of it.

I suspect he'll be the next Schumacher in that he's still talented and motivated enough to remain in F1 until he's finished driving. He may change that attitude after F1, but at the moment I honestly can't see him being motivated by anything else at the moment.
