Hungarian Grand Prix 2014, Hungaroring Race - 11/19

Yeah, not sure what they expect the principles to do. Take the morale high ground and refuse to race? They'd be penalised and you know other teams would race and get the points anyway.

Its become a forum for reporters to try and make a name for themselves by asking 'hard hitting questions', but its just decended into a farce now with very little talk about racing ans just increasingly stupid things being asked.

Only because JB's under performance gives us lots of ammunition :p. And all the Vettel hate has petered out now that hes not up front. People get bored, we need to entertain ourselves :D
Speak for yourself, I still don't like Vimto and haven't moved on to Button bashing instead. I do think Button will be out of McLaren next year though.

As for alonso, as above, if Button goes there is a good chance Alonso would take the seat. If Button stays he will also probably stay.

I'm probably wrong but I like it.

Right, so whether or not Alonso signs for McLaren depends on whether or not Button stays? What the **** are you smoking?

If McLaren are to have even the slightest chance of signing Alonso they need to bow to his every demand. Teammate, salary, contract clauses (of which there would be many), the menu in the canteen. Every single one.

Say what are you smoking? A free seat = an opener for Alonso for a start. Without that, teammate, salary, contract means zip. If there is no seat there is no Alonso at McLaren, how hard was that to understand?

If Alonso becomes available and is even remotely interested they will pay what is needed to remove Button from his seat, including buying out his contract.

Alonso is generally considered the best driver alive (with Schumacher). Button is a driver who needed the best car by a distance to win a title and still tried to mess it up.

Edit: Button doesn't even have a contract for 2015. He's entirely reliant on McLaren not tempting another driver (Alonso, Hamilton, Vettel) to drive for them next season.

Don't get me wrong, I like Button, he seems a genuinely great guy who, if I knew i real life I'd feel I'd have a mate for life, but he's not a top F1 driver, and won't ever be among the elite. And I'm not just trying to wind up SMR - he just won't be. Top bloke, but not a top driver.

I didn't say anything about Alonso's availability, I was talking about a possible availability of a seat at McLaren and mentioned Alonso in connection with that, and you came out with some expletive. If you can't act like an adult and reply without going on a rant then don't bother replying to me in future.

Fine, without expletives: If Alonso is available and McLaren can sign him, McLaren will sign him, with or without Button. Alonso decides. Alonso gets.

OK?

Exactly, Perez had a contract and they paid him off to leave. Ultimately they could have kept Perez surely and brought in Magnussen but it was in Perez's interest to leave and be driving somewhere than being hung out to dry as a back up driver.

Kimi had his contract bought out to get him to leave to put Alonso in the seat. It's not a question of if Button wants to stay or even if Button has a contract for the next few years, if a team wants a driver in a seat they'll push out an old driver. In most cases they'd try to find a way to not pay off the full contract by getting them a seat in another team.

If Mclaren want him and Alonso wanted to go there, the rest doesn't matter, they'd find a way.

With Mag showing some really good form and potential and Button being out of a contract it would currently be cheaper to get shot of Button. If... say like with Perez, Button is on say 10-12mil a year and Perez was on 3mil a year, it would be way way cheaper to get Perez out of a 3 year contract than Button out of his final year. So if Button had 2 years left it could be Mag being pushed into a temporary driver with a view to bringing him back rather than paying button 20+mil to leave.
