PU change for Max. Guess they've decided after yesterday won't be their day after yesterday so are planning ahead. Be interesting to see what he can do.

Edit: assumed there would be penalty but apparently not as it's the same spec engine. My bad

There's no penalty for the change. But it doesn't bode well for him in the season ahead: he's used up all his changes and it's not even half way through the season. There will be penalties in the latter part of the season.

Eh? There was no gamesmanship he drove faster than he did on his previous out lap

And 1.5 seconds slower on his qualifying lap.

I think it's good fun.

My opinion in sport (or motorsport in this case) is always if you want to win, just be better/faster. If you can't then that's too bad. Go and do something else with life instead.

I’m so over the current tyre situation where there’s all this fannying around to get them to their ideal operational temperature and then babysitting them so they last more than 10 laps.

Keep the requirement to run two different compounds during dry races, but all compounds should last at least 2/3s of the average race distance without any tyre management.

It’s what Pirelli are contracted to do as an element of ‘spice’
Just about everyone is - this has been rumbling on now for some years
Does anyone know if this continues next year with the new low-profile tyres?

So Max has basically 2 race engines for the rest of the year, one fresh and one with 6 (?) races on it, but also that first one was seemingly a bit down on power perhaps... Even if they avoid any penalties that's not great. I guess they can use the dodgy engine still for practices though until it dies.

Tyre wise it wasn't really much better when tyres lasted decently so meh, saying that the big issue is overtaking, quite often the only interesting bits of the races were because of a different tyre strategy/life, it's 'fake' but it's better than nothing. Next year though, if the regs work, maybe it would be better to have longer lasting tyres, if they can actually race.
