Me either. I'm surprised MCL are sticking with him. My assumption would be that there's no viable other option due to the super licence issues with O'Ward.

If they are planning on dumping him for an IndyCar driver, my guess is we won't hear anything until the end of the IndyCar season (September 11), they will need the license points from a good finish to earn a superlicense.

In terms of time it came out about the same, but he might have been able to hold one or more of those positions he lost if he hadn't pitted. In particular, he might have stayed ahead of Checo.
And this is what annoys me/confuses me. Too often in F1, they pick a strategy which will only work if they last longer on a set of tyres, but then when an opponent pits, they (and tbh this can be many teams) panic and pit too, losing what advantage they might have had. In fact, they've come out worse as to that point they were on a slower tyre, then pit at the same time. It's only going to pay off if you stay out...

I'm not normally one to call things "over" so early, but after today, the drivers title almost definitely is. Max and the Red Bull are too good and the points gap is just too big now.
It's definitely over, it would take a miracle to overcome that points gap. With how easily he's going to win it makes the events of last year even more tragic, and it's not going to feel as special winning his first legitimate championship after being handed a fake trophy by Masi.

Yeah. As someone else put it.. the world would have been "in equilibrium" if Lewis won last year and Max this year due to reg changes. Lewis would be 8 time world champion and his fans would be at peace with that. At the same time he would have set a new bar for the next driver (Max or otherwise) to try and break. Max has time on his side, his fans wouldn't have been half as bitter as Lewis's because they know he still stands a good chance of a few titles as long as RB doesn't implode or something. Meh. If anything we'll look forward to the memes "congratulations on your first world championship Max" lol..
