Perez' speed randomly drops all the time. He's just not very consistent.

As for the race, I cannot believe how even half way through the season, Ferrari still continue to surprise me at how badly they can throw a race. It's just comical. Big props for Mercedes always being there to pick up the pieces. While it does seem the title battle for 1st is over, who is getting 2nd still seems to be a mystery with Merc on the rise.

When Toto joked that they held back until summer break to make it more exciting I couldn't help but think if there was some truth in that ha.

Imagine they come back after the break and win all the remainder races :D

Final thoughts? Seeing Max win and Charles in 6th, surely not possible but that's F1.
Whats going on with Danny Ric in that half decent McLaren? 13th place behind both AM's and Alpines, time to do a Seb?

Mathematically, it would. If George wins every single race (with fastest lap) and Lewis is 2nd at every race. Even if Max finishes third behind them every time George would still win the championship.
You would hope ferrari would manage to not mess up strategy in a couple of the remaining races

Any chance Mercedes getting the constructors this year, or is it a double for RB?
Always possible, but looks massively unlikely to me. They'd need to take an average of 15 points per race off RB over the final 9 races. Unless RB hire the entire Ferrari engine or strategy departments, I can't see that happening.

Second place, though, yes. Absolutely.

I suppose a lot will depend on the new car setups once the season restarts after the summer break. Perhaps Merc's will be getting 1-2 finishes again instead of 2-3's or 5-6's. They could catch them over the last 9 races, and it could go down to the wire, or they'll get a solid second place. Can't imagine CH or HM would be impressed if RB came second but MV still won the drivers championship though.

Yeah I think Merc will end up second to RB. Bloody Ferrari and their incompetence!

I didn't realise that 1st place gave 7 points over 2nd. 1st and 4th (say Max & Checo) over the Mercs 2nd & 3rd is 4 points in hand.

From all the videos/stories I’ve watched from various experts/apparent experts, apparently the car doesn’t suit his style. I.e. he likes a car that he can brake late into a corner and then drive a certain line/way through it but the McLaren doesn’t let him do this. You could say he should be able to suit his style to the car but for him at least he can’t do this or isn’t as fast trying.

Which is why he should’ve stayed at Red Bull. :D (People will now tell me I’m wrong :o and that he’s been made number two etc BUT he would’ve won a lot more races. Plus he traded blows results wise with Max anyway so it wouldn’t have made RB’s job easy.

Lando said similar this weekend, in i think the Sky build up, car doesn't suit him either, difficult to drive, doesnt Inspire confidence etc.

Lando clearly has found a way to drive a way around it, or adapt to a point (as he says in the interview). Riccardo clearly can't do this, it obviously needs to be exactly how he wants it.

McLaren really need to beat Alpine in the constructors this year (for the exta $$) but Riccardo is making it hard. So either McLaren have to magically find out how to make it more driveable or hope next years car is better. The question then is do they try and please Riccardo or Lando, do they have similar styles (I don't think so). Riccardo is surely not the no1 these days.

In Hungary they both switched to the hards but after about 15 laps Lando had stayed in 7th and Riccardo just slipped backwards (fast). He ended up what, 15?

I don't think they should keep him next year.

Me either. I'm surprised MCL are sticking with him. My assumption would be that there's no viable other option due to the super licence issues with O'Ward.

He seems to be in the Jenson Button model of driver, whereby they're blisteringly fast but only when the car is in a very narrow operating window.
