Could it be something to do with the Modular part? The connections failing?

Seems it could be that if its only happening on the Modular units.

Have to agree with this comment. Seen lots of issues raised with the Modular Type-R variants.

I have the non-modular Type-M 580 Watt and still going strong with no issues after 10 months heavy pounding from overclocking etc.

For every failure I'm sure Hyper could give you a list of a thousand if not more of happy customers who haven't had a single problem.
Nobody reports a happily working PSU after 12 months - so I'll attempt to buck that trend.

Hyper 580w modular PSU - Purchased because its modular, not because of it's colour etc.
Still going strong after 12 months, still giving perfect voltages.

Yes but there is no denying that Hiper is worse than other reputable brands since we don't hear this kind of failure very often at all with the likes of Seasonic, Corsair, OCZ, or Tagan.

Besides why would you rather take the risk by getting a Hiper assuming "there must be thousands out there without problems". Remember not everyone with a failed hiper will make posts on forums too.

You really are tempting fate. I said that about mine and then two months later (around the 14 month mark) it went exactly the same way as Headrats. Turn on, bloody great bang, smoke, sparks and a really acrid smell. Took out a brand new 939 DFI motherboard as well. Nothing was clocked or anything, just stock speeds. Cost me well over £300 in total to get up and running again. I now have a Seasonic S12 650w Energy+ which really is awesome.

That's five Hipers last week, two this week so far and dozens over the past few months that have failed or blown. That's just on these forums. They really need to look into their build quality or at least do something.

This thing about the fan stopping, is that the fan on the back of the PSU?

Because as far as I know, it's never worked for me, not since day one.

The PSU has been stable enough though, except it would explain my high case temps.

The first Hiper I had would not shut down properly, it would enter a reset loop indefinately, switching everything on off every 1 second. The 2nd one lasted about 7 months. I don't know if I can be bothered getting a replacement.

I bought one from another e-tailer.

It worked perfectly, but then I read loads of posts on various forums that they tend to go bad.

I did a RMA, I claimed it was not working properly, sent it back & they sent me a new one. This is when I realised that the replacement was sent on a new invoice, so I sent it back asking for a refund. Haha.. they refunded me & I got an OCZ GameXtream :D

Glad for you, could have been a lot worse.

Anyway, same thing happened to me last night but with a Tagan 480w psu.

My fault really. The psu was turned on at the back, didnt realise. Plugged it into the wall. Went to fire the rig on and bang, blue flash and a bit of burnt component from inside the psu.

I am going to see if its affective any of the other system, doubt it. It was hooked up to a AXP rig so not the best in the world, but all the same, hopefully I havnt lost anymore hardware.

The Tagan is off for RMA very soon. Got another one arriving tomorrow, thankfully.

Second that but getting worried.

I wonder how if Overclockers are seeing a larger number of returns on Hipers than on any other brand?
