I am so sick of my pathetic computer

Seems like the motherboard to me. Especially after the bit where he takes out all the pci cards and it stops BSOD every 30 seconds.

I would'nt completely rule out the Hiper though. They only claim 360w on the 12v rails so if you are overclocked it could be pushing it too far. They can't even manage their 580w total either. At least it has'nt blown up yet.

What display drivers have you got. The latest beta 162.18's are good. I take it you have already tried updating the mobo drivers?

I really dont know what to do if its the motherboard.

If I RMA it I will be 3 weeks without a motherboard, so I will have to buy another.

Then I will either:

a) Receive it back with no fault found and a testing fee becuase the fault is intermittant and annoying
b) Receive a nice replacement back. Yea, really handy that.

Bought it in March so no chance of a refund I wouldnt think?

About to try my old X850XT.

I'd have thought only within the first 7 days, maybe the first month of owning, but March seems a little long.

Contact Ocuk (or whever you got it from) to check if you can get one...the answer will most likely be RMA it, and you'll get a replacement. Which I know you don't want.

Radeon is in now. That was fun.

Turn machine on. Hangs immediatly after checking to boot from CD (It does this quote often actually). Hit reset button. Machine starts.

Install Radeon drivers. Reboot machine. Machine POSTS... oh wait, no, it doesn't. Instead I get 4 short beeps.

Machine off. Back on. 4 short beeps.

Machine off. Back on. 4 short beeps.

Machine off. Back on. POST's and boots into Windows

My brother is faced with the same issue, he too has a DS3 (or it might be a DS4), and the soundcard on it has gone kaput, phoned up OCUK and got an RMA reference for him, that was ages ago so it'll now have expired he isn't sure whether he can be bothered with it all, or whether to just stick a soundcard in alongside it

I'd say £5-£10 below retail, I mean it's likely to be a brand new and sealed motherboard box. Which means it can go for a lot...comparativly.

If it's just the board that they send you, then I'd say something like £15-£20 off retail...£50 for a new DS3 is fair really.

If it's any consolation Fox, I sort of know what you're going through. I seem cursed when it comes to PCs and hardware - something always has to make it a misery. My graphics card failed two months ago and I recently got that RMA'd, and now my wireless card is causing an audio stuttering problem since I've switched to Vista.

Makes it so tempting to just buy a pre-built. At least then any issues that arise are the OEM's problem, not mine.

I'll buy a new motherboard. If it doesnt solve the problem it means my DS3 isnt faulty so I can sell it and get some cash back.

If it does solve the problem it means the DS3 is faulty, so I can RMA it and sell the replacement.

Sounds like you've had a bit of fun with this build.

I built very similar build to what you've got at the end of last year and its been awsome ever since. I did have some BSOD problems when I was playing Stalker, but as soon as I put it down to the default speeds it started behaving itself.

Sounds like you're doing the right thing with the new motherboard. How many watts is the PSU?

Do you know anyone at your uni with a similar socket/memory cpu configuration who would be willing to swap mobos with you for a week?

From experience as most people, even those who can build their own machines, would likely look at you as if you were insane asking them to spend their time and disrupt their working machine with a mobo swap, you might want to start with a toe in the water asking someone to swap a psu perhaps?

Does anyone else get that? Someone comes to me with a problem like this and I suggest bench testing programs or driver install suggestions (people can manage os reinstalls these days) and they start to look uncomfortable. When I offer to swap out parts with them they tend to go ashen faced. But quite frankly I've stopped wanting to pick up entire machines and taking on sole machine fixing responsibilities from anyone other than family members so I'd rather just swap parts myself.

Nope - everyones gone home for the Summer.

Got an Enermax Liberty 400W in the other machine though. May try that.
