I find that my usb stick tries to transfer all it's data as soon as it's inserted.

What about when it's round the back?
I find some USB ports can be worn so badly that there isn't a snug enough connection. When this happens, I find the rear USB ports can be more accommodating.
USB ports are a pain. How many people have tried to plug a cable in, got it wrong, turned it round only to find it's still wrong and gone back to the original orientation only to find that it was right first time after all!
Just remember to safely eject your hardware after use.

Do you rub your thumb over it before insertion?
