i core processors

will know better how the quad cores run it with the beta hopefully, need a new GPU aswell, radeon hd 5700 showing its age

Im putting up my gtx460 for sale soon, keep an eye out for that if your on a budget. I'm waiting on Bulldozer really. I like AMD too much regardless if the i5/7 is better.

mobo ? a new motherboard i take it ?

Well my birthday is coming up in November, so i was thinking on maybe buying in 2 installments, mobo and processor in november, then save up for a new graphics card for christmas and put it in the case, and possibly sell the old components, i also have an old case with a dual core set up, 9800 gt, probly wouldnt sell for much now though

People still buy the 9800GT and use it as a phsx card so probably worth selling that asap to raise funds. I'd wait until the Beta though. But if you're like me, get a new mobo, stick the X4 in there, and then get Bulldozer :D

When is this bulldozer due ? sorry im not high up on tech stuff, much will that cost, will it help greatly in performance with the latest games ? what are things are you planning on purchasing ?

Well theres been many dates on BD. Some say start of next month, others say November. There's no benches out yet in terms of gaming etc, but it does have 8 cores for around £200. People will either **** it off, or admire it. It's all down to choice.

Things I'm buying, well, in order it will be

Mobo > CPU > GFX CARD and then Ram.

I was going to buy an SSD but I see no point as my computer is on 24/7 and loading times make no diff for me

Right thanks for the advice, see how the beta goes, probably wait a few months near christmas, hopefully prices will go down and then get a kick ass machine that will pwn Battlefield 3

you be on CS source later ?

I will probably lol. But I'd sell that 9800 whilst it has some value, least its more money then you had :) I'll also update you which mobo I get as I've just started a thread

Thanks, yea keep me up to date via PM, steam or whatever, love updating my pc, all my mates play on consoles, but because i need a mouse and keyboard for my FPS RTS needs, cant aim for crap on a controller in shooting games on a console

Why would a Phenom quad core struggle with BF3? I anything, it will put stress on your GPU. I'd imagine your CPU will cope fine.

This, a cpu makes very little difference in the majority of games apart from large open world games etc. If it does happen to be a bottleneck you can always overclock.

How do i check what motherboard i have ?

My current set up is

AMD phenom 2 X4 965 Processor 3.40 GHz
4 gb of ddr 3 ram im nearly certain its ddr 3 , i can see the ram by looking at the side of my case, it can hold another 2 sticks, so i could have 8 gigs of ram in there, i can see it says HT 3.0 and AM3 where the ram goes
Windows 7
HD radeon 5750

Your CPU can be overclocked to 3.8ghz+ as well. That way it will be good for any other future games. You just need to worry about your GPU.

What GPU would be best i wonder 6950, 560 ti or something better ?

wont overclocking shorten the lifespan of the CPU ? or do the positives outweigh the negatives
