You miss his point, which is that many companies now appear to use FB as the only or main source of customer contact.

In last years inclement weather for example the only way to get live service updates from the local BUS company of all people was to use the bus companies facebook page.

They have a perfectly good website which they could have used. I can see how this would be frustrating if you've chosen not to use Facebook, along with numerous movies, new products, etc etc being advertised with only a Facebook link to find out more.

Don't use the bus then.

This. It's frustrating and dumb.

I don't, I was just suggesting what the OP meant, because everyone had just run off on a LOL DONT USE IT tirade rather than working out what it was he was moaning about :p

That's not what he meant at all.
The op is quite clear what he means and that a lot of companies have a lie are Facebook image/link. Not that they only post info on Facebook.then confirms this with the reply to your first pos, going that's the way it appears to be heading.

What is so annoying about an image-link.

It actually makes perfect sense, takes the bandwidth load off the bus company's website and people will share the page which will mean friends and family who likely live in the same area will also get the information.

You only have to look at F1 car launches this year, the only one that really worked was Mclaren who had a Facebook page with live video. Everyone else's sites ground to a halt. No point in expanding infrastructure for a few hours when there is already a perfect means that will also provide you more exposure.

Errr, ok.

I didnt read the rest of your post as it made my head hurt.

Seems simple to me.
You may also wants to read the rest of that sentence. "that's the way its going"
Certainly not what he meant in the op.

Why is it that every site i go on, they say like our facebook page,

People haven't jumped on a band wagon they have replied to what the op actually said.

A bit like Netflix where you could only sign up on the trial if you used your facebook login details.

The reason companies do it is because it's a powerful demographic tool that gives them an overview in real time as to what their fans/purchasers like/dislike, complimentary products, age groups etc. You dont get that from a normal website.

However I do think it's too intrusive and of course is not an accurate reflection of a persons tastes, only an accurate reflection of the tastes they want others to know about.

.

Or by just registering without Facebook and get the free month. It's just Facebook option was more prominent it gives them huge amount of free exposure and easily tracks what people are watching.

Seems resonable to me, you provide advertisement, you get paid.
Why would they give you something for nothing.
