I feel like buying GPU's is a form of therapy for me... Anyone else?

So £125 per month for the 3090 + monthly payments for the "Audi V6" + monthly payments for the "personalised number plate".

I don't understand that need for something you don't have cash for. I could pay cash for several 3090s if I wanted. I'm in that position for 3 reasons.

1. I didn't buy a 3090
2. I didn't buy an Audi V6
3. I didn't buy a personalised number plate.

Surely it feels nicer to have the money in your bank? That's not a rhetorical question by the way. I'm just thinking out loud. Baffled by all this borrowing.

Credit can be used to save money as odd as this sounds, you pay fragments of what you owe whilst your bank account still accrues money.
That's how I do it as I needed to build my credit score.

Quite how this gentleman manages on the dole is beyond me, I am on a modest wage.

Yep I made up a rough figure of my income then said I was a student with no outgoing. Was delighted when they accepted me for a £1250 GPU. Felt like getting free stuff tbh :p

Definitely is. My credit score is about 550. I can't get finance with anyone accept Klarna.

I don't understand how it feels like free stuff when £125 per month will be taken out for the next 10 months , also I wouldn't like the idea of still paying it off when the next gen hits

So I've actually had 4 GPU's in 2 years. The list is follows:

6800 (Returned for 6800XT)
6800 XT (Sold and bought 3070 Ti plus a bit of change)
3070 Ti (Current GPU had since July 2021)
3080 12GB (Just bought and will sell 3070 Ti to recover some cost)

That means I've tried 4 different GPU's in one generation. To be fair I wanted a 3080 from the beginning but couldn't get hold of one. I'm fairly confident I'll be happy with the 3080 12GB Strix i just payed £1200 for a bit longer than the 3070 Ti ... Unless those 4080's are released end of the year are actually available and I get really jealous :(

Just getting that box with a new shiny GPU inside is the best feeling in the world...:D
This is quite possibly the most ridiculous thing I've ever read. Do your research, make a choice and stick with it.

Making up some sort of excuse about how it's nice and shiny and some sort of therapy is quite pathetic in all honesty. Grow the hell up

1. It's a 3080.
2. The Audi is a 2005 (but still looks decent) i bought that with cash from a "herbal venture" a while ago.
3. I did that on Klarna too.

Well like you said I pay the bare minimum each month and I'm currently not paying any rent (moved back to parents).

I live with my parents also, I made some bad decisions early on which I am responsible for. They are both disabled, dad is missing a leg and my mum is missing a part of her brain, this is not made up, she almost died from a hemorrhage.
Me and my brother do what we can to make things lighter, though I said strictly I would not be putting my name down to look after them, this is not a weight I want on my shoulders, they were both abusive people who did a lot to stump our growth as kids, I am not a child no more, I am 32, I am studying so I can live a better life not just for me but for my wife to be and the future family we want to have, I spent enough time getting through things mentally and emotionally that the time has come where I am sick of myself and now the only way is forwards, there is no if, no buts, no second chance, it is either now or never.
But I don't direct my ambition in black and white terms, failure is really learning, go again... success is determined on how much you put effort in, not luck. Luck is merely a factor of what we cannot control, it is the life that is external to us and our desires, this is why time matters.

Let me tell you this, you either make use of the time you have or time will make use of you and time is very black and white, time is subject to what you do, karma exists.

If I were you I would get a job, not be on here bragging about your so-called ludicrous spending spree and how great you feel about it.
If life was all about feeling good, we would have nothing in life, please get back into reality. If you have never been in reality, start sobering up.

I don't know you and I don't know your parents.
Regardless of your perception of the quality of life you have had or are having, it is always in your power to change it, there is only I me or you only who can changes ones own life, nobody else is going to do it for you, that is left to father time, the clock ticks.

Time is infinite, we are not. Matter is finite, we are made of matter, and what matters must obey the rules of time, so ponder what matters.

The best bit is he's only got a 1080p monitor, so he's overpaid by £500 for a 3080 on credit, money he'll never get back as prices are crashing now, and he's got a vastly under-utilised card - on the plus side, it says Strix on it, there's a little ruler that comes with it and pokemon-style card...

Don't rub salt in the wound. I really want the Dell Alienware AW3423DW :(

I'm actually on benefits and took the £1250 out on 0% finance to get the card. Everybody thinks they can afford their payment plan until they can't afford their payment plan. Yes you could say I'm living way beyond my means... ;)

You can play games on a £450 console though (many do). I see that they are now sitting in stock at MRSP and not being scalped by Microsoft or the retailers like GPUs are

For RT that 3080 comes in handy for 60fps native (not DLSS or anything like that).

I don't see a real issue to buy stuff like this on credit - of course, if you can afford those payments!. Some spend much more on smokes, drinks, wild parties and so on. Each can find his own way to unwind.

Agreed, is because we have a mix of people. Those that can't afford it, those that can't afford it but are willing to borrow to obtain it and those to whom it's just loose change. They'll never agree on value as they have totally different world views.

I could afford it but just couldn't justify it and didn't wanna give in to the high prices

At the time 3080 surprim was £1200-£1300 I went with the 3080 FE instead £649 think I made the right decision

All set to upgrade to the 40 series all depends on pricing and availability looking to try for AIB if not will go with FE again

I feel the same way by browsing and comparing prices. Bought 3060ti and 3070(FE) then sold them to friends and after bought 6600xt and 3070ti, both returned. I think I'll stick with my HD630 for a while

Sure, if you can afford to do that. It's all about the in game performance and value for me. And trying to build a PC with few performance bottlenecks (such as RAM frequencies and latency to some extent).

But, you never want to be too far behind the top of the line I suppose, there's a always a balance to be struck. e.g work out if you care about the difference between 50 and 60 FPS minimum (and how perceptible is this difference when you aren't staring at a framerate counter?)

Getting things for a good price can also be a very good feeling :). I seem to have convinced myself that £650 would be a reasonable price for a RTX 3080 FE, in hindsight I wonder if I will still think the same thing in 1 or 2 years time?
