I hate my housemate

For the last year my housemate has been trying to blow up the engine in his Elise. Tonight after much hard work it suffered HGF and is currently abandoned in Tescos carpark whilst he goes out to celebrate.

Why the celebration? I hear you ask. Well tomorrow he's booking it in for a Civic Type-R engine conversion with ~220bhp at the wheels  or over 300bhp/ton. He's giving the supercharger a miss for the moment as he's convinced he'd kill himself but 300bhp (over 400bhp/ton) could be arriving in a years time :D

Jealous, me? No, I'm as green as the Incredible Hulk due to a hormone inbalance ;)

I see the K series question has been asked... so was it? :p

How did he blow it up? Just redline it stationary? Poor engine. I would have had that!

This is, of course, all assuming it's still there when he's done celebrating

LOL, if you blow the HG on a K, you aren't going to get very far ;)

Do you mean S2000 engine ? civic doesnt put out 220 at the wheels, unless they are doing some work on the engine aswell ?

Sounds nice though :)

why blow the engine n purpose anyway, surely he could have gotten a few bob for it when it comes out ? nutter, must have money to burn.

How much is that setting him back? Where does the extra power come from above the CTR engine?

Prices start at £10k though realistically he's looking at £13k The company that does the conversion have their own map for the engine and do a few other bits and bobs. The VTEC changeover point is down to 4.5-5k rpm. IIRC the Jap spec CTR produces over 200bhp so they may have started with that map?

Was it the K series, why not just sell off the old engine or he needed the excuse i guess. How many miles did it have ?

1.8k with some head work done pushing out ~130bhp. Engine had done 41k but he could never justify getting a conversion whilst his K was working so decided to blow it up. At ~4% £13000 return £520 in interest over a year which is how long he's been thinking about getting it done and how much he would have probably got for the engine.

10k for the conversion? u can buy a CTR for that !!
The 300bhp version will upset Ferrari 360s upto 140mph. The 220bhp version isn't going to be far behind. I won't even start on the handling (it's on Nitrons) ;)

6k rpm from stone cold twice a day for the last year.

S2000 engine wouldn't fit.

When you're spending £13k on an engine conversion £500 doesn't really come into it.

As for the theft side of things.... For some reason Elises don't get stolen very often. Certainly if the local scum wanted one they could have had any number of them over the summer when they are left parked up in Cambridge with the roofs off.

Who's he going with for the conversion??

And why he wanted the pop the engine...most companies like Maidstone will give you a discount for a decent K-series in exhange for the Honda. Its only about £500, but still...

Also...before he goes and gets it done - have a look on the SELOC classifieds, last time I looked there were three Honda converted Elises for sale ranging from £15k to 19k...some were nicely sorted with Nitrons, etc...

Cheaper and easier than doing it yourself!

Elise would only get stolen to order. Too conspicuous, not worth much in bits and too highly secured for joyriders.

I was mainly concerned about vandalism - mainly people throwing things in it when the roof was off...

HOLY ****!!! And people say HGF is a big problem on Rover engines! You try finding me an engine that wouldn't suffer major problems (HGF isn't really major) if it was subjected to that :D

Go Rover!!

I thought that elise had the VVC engine in it though?
