I hate my housemate

I thought that elise had the VVC engine in it though?

Mine does :D

Standard Elise - 118bhp
Elise 135 - 135bhp (in reality closer to 145bhp)
111s - 143bhp VVC engine (~145-150bhp with exhaust and induction)
160 - Does exactly what it says on the tin.

S1 cars only. In the S2 the 111s is ~155-160bhp.

Also...before he goes and gets it done - have a look on the SELOC classifieds, last time I looked there were three Honda converted Elises for sale ranging from £15k to 19k...some were nicely sorted with Nitrons, etc...

Cheaper and easier than doing it yourself!

Mat IIRC you used to own an S1 S160 so you must understand the mentality of the enthusiastic Elise owner. Pauls car is a 1997 that he has owned since 1998-99, selling it is not an option as it's his pride an joy. I know that if I ever win the lottery I will own a 300bhp Elise but my current car will not be a donor, I will keep it as it is until the end of time and then I am planning to bribe my Grandchildren to keep it on the road. Paul makes me look like a mere amateur :D

lol.. :D

Yeah I had the S160. Current owner is now selling to buy an S2 to get Honda'd. After driving the Teg, the thought of this engine (well, very similar engine) in an Elise is mouth watering.

Not sure I'd like to be on anything but a long flat road when the VTEC kicks in tho :p

Pics and opinions when its done though please :D

How odd, blow up your engine to get a new one lol.

An elise with 13k engine swap, I'd rather sell the elise and spend the 20k on something else. No doubt it will be fast though

K20 swapped.

I'm no expert so it could be 220bhp at the fly 200 at the wheels. 4 month waiting list as the moment so I'll let you know in the spring :D

In the mean time AA Parts and Labour warantee is going to be used to fix the HGF for £50 :D

DL - It's a lot of money he's spending and reading inbetween the lines it seems it's coming with a K-Pro ECU so it wouldnt surprise me if he was getting some aftermarket cams in with the deal. If so - best to get Toda, rather than IPS/Crower etc.

K20 out of a JDM car will be circa 218bhp atf. Breathing mods and tuned that will be 250 ish bhp aft (200atw).

Only thing I'll say is that if the K20 makes 200atw in a FWD Honda, it's not going to make the same in a Lotus. Some more power will be lost through the RWD transmission.

Either way it really doesn't matter - even 180 atw would be mind blowingly fast.

What RWD transmission? Theres no rear diff.

Its Mid engine, its exactly the same layout as the CTR in terms of gearbox and driveshafts!

forgive me if my memory is acting up but didn't you recently say that even that figure of 218 BHP @ flywheel was produced running Jap fuel?
i'm sure i remember reading a post from you that said 210BHP on Optimax was more realistic for a UK car.

Thought you were saying it was FWD then, you mean they just turn it 180 and its all good :)
Does it come with LSD on that conversion

No, if you turned it through 180 degrees you would be going backwards very, very quickly! The engine and gearbox is in exactly the same orientation as it is when fitted to the CTR, just mounted at the rear of the car rather than the front.

lol, well I always heard some cars could do 90 in reverse and that would explain it but your explanation works too
IIRC the Austin Champ had a regular gearbox with a seperate forward/reverse lever allowing you to drive as fast in forward mode as you could in reverse.

it killed a lot of drivers if my memory serves me well.

Same when using quaife reverse boxes in bike engined 7's, you get use of all the forwards gears in reverse, which could be fun :p

conversion sounds very cool, should prove to be an awesome car.

and i think i did a little wee on seeing that exige :o
