In terms of quick hatchbacks I'd place something like a Golf GTI or a Focus ST easily above a Corsa VXR in terms of being a great all rounder. A BMW 135i offers more performance, more comfort and more ability if you don't mind a boot, and a 130i offers a little less performance than a 135i whilst remaining a hot hatch.

I think you just listed cars which compete with the Astra (not saying the Corsa is a class leader tho).

He's talking about all round cars. Not all round cars with the exact dimensions of a Vauxhall Corsa, available in Arden Blue, and supplied with a griffen on the bonnet. Although your point is interesting as surely an Astra VXR is a better all round package than a Corsa VXR, given it offers even more performance yet retains the practicality and introduces more comfort as it's slightly bigger and thus in theory more refined..

Infact hang on, surely as all round cars go - that is something with space, pace, comfort, ability, etc etc the Insignia VXR is in with a good shout? Thats an interesting all rounder (Though still far from 'best').

So the Corsa isn't even the best all round VXR, let alone car full stop.

Fanboys eh, the things they come out with ;)

TW Fox.

Considering it takes the best part of a week to get an account moderated on here and your silly comments only started yesterday, dont flatter yourself thinking Id waste my time to sign up just for you :)

I dont own one, I have driven one some time ago though and I have vastly more car knowledge than yourself, some wannabe big shot shouting the odds on a computer forum while driving a tatty old BMW just so he can say hes a BMW Driver, not the highest class of person to start with, haha.

Isn't it encouraging that by only his second post he's already decided on a path of fabricated insults rather than intelligent debate. It would have been nice for him to have used his superior car knowledge to explain the Corsa VXR's talents and justify its class leading credentials. Perhaps we could have turned this thread into the direction of interesting petrolhead banter...

No need for personal insults really.

Maybe he is mistaking car knowledge with Fox knowledge? And mistaking knowledge with comedy.

Maybe he is mistaking car knowledge with the ability to instantly judge you? And mistaking knowledge with comedy.

Nah it's because it is a PC forum, therefore we instantly know nothing about cars what so ever, just like to post lots about them, just to fill a forum ya know :p

That would be due to this

http://www.vxronline.co.uk/forum/showthread.php?t=68908

Somebody on the vxr forums cross posted this tread. Hence the bump.

That thread certainly delivered in terms of my expectations.

2 faced - how? You didn't lie.
Nothign wrong with sharing threads either. You see a great thread somewhere else - you link it here. No reason not to do the same for the opposite. It's all out there to see.

Is it me, or is the posting standard over there a lot suspect. Grammar Nazis here would have a field day.

Take this gem:
Mr MUZ said:
why cant ppl give advise to some young drivers instead of writing this some where else

Translated:
Why can't people give advice to some young drivers, instead of writing this somewhere else.

Of all the grammar over there you chose that one as an example? It wasn't even that bad!

This whole thing seems utterly ridiculous, both that somebody should go to the trouble of bothering to report it to the police in the first place and then that an entire internet forum would call somebody a 'grass' because they've not read the thread properly defies beleif.

What was wrong with just tutting amongst ourselves in the thread about how foolish the guy was and leaving it at that?

And the cost of them?

They all cost nearly £10k more than the VXR, they are better, but not £10k better.

A Focus ST certainly isn't £10k more than a VXR and neither is a Golf GTI. Used 130i's start from just over £10k. Besides, once you start adding cost into the mix when discussing terms like 'best all round car' then the whole thing is pointless, because you could succesfully argue that a Fiat Panda 100HP is the best all round car in the world, ready with a pot of scorn to pour over anyone who then says 'Errr no its not, what about XYZ' provided XYZ costs more than £10k..

When discussing what makes the best all round car full stop sure budget is a consideration but only in the sense that a Bugatti Veyron cannot qualify because of its extreme cost. A Golf GTI for example is reasonably priced - it is not an expensive car in the grand scheme of things. The Corsa VXR may be good value, but it isn't anywhere near the best all round car on sale today, in my opinion.

Clio 197, Cooper S Works, Civic Type R...
