I hate to say it..

ive had 3 360's. first one kept crashing, second one i returned for the hell of it to the shop cos it had trouble reading the odd disk.

third one was fine till last month when i got the 3 red rings. but as it was out of warranty i just ripped it appart, ripped the heatsinks off it, cleaned off the crappy thermal paste that was on it, and put some arctic silver 5 on. slapped it back together and voila, a month later and still no problems :)

infact my friends launch day console also died recently, again waaaaaaaaay out of warranty. he asked me what he could do, i told him what i did and also said that wrapping it up in a towel for like an hour or so sometimes works.

he searched it on the net, figured he'd try it as he hasnt got anythin to loose. wrapped it in a towel, left it turned on for an hour, turned it off and unwrapped it, let it cool down for a couple of hours and again voila! :) its been workin fine ever since lol

I know we shouldnt have to do this to a console to get it working but honestly guys, if you do get the 3 red rings and its out of warranty, why not try some of these fixes? a lot of the time they do work and your not gonna loose anythin if they dont

I'll try that when mine dies.

I've built a few PC's in my time and have some AS lying around so hopefully it will sort it.

Just out of interest, what kind of turnaround are you looking at if it breaks down within warranty and you send it back? I had a dead pixel on my DS when I got it, sent it off and got a new sent within a week. Is it bout same for xbox360?

guess it depends where you brought it from. I brought mine from a well known high street videogame shop and i took both my 360's back there. They were swapped on the spot with no messing about, no arguments etc. just a "righto, ill just go and get you another one from the stock room" :)

but i guess if it was bought online then you'd have to go through microsoft and no idea how long that takes?

Same here.Launch day console to and its on every day.

If it did go kaput tomorrow i wouldn't bother as i think i'ved had my moneys worth so far.

same, well close enough, i think mine was part of the post christmas shipment, think i got it the January after it came out.

its bloody loud, but it plays fine, and have had no problems with it, money well spent imo

Oh didn't know you could do that tbh. Better then waiting eagerly at the door for a parcel. :)

its amazing that it takes watchdog to make people sit up and listen to what we'e been saying since it was launched.

the failure rate is far too high. period.

My 360 had better not die before I've worn it out by playing Halo 3.

If it does then my PS3 will be getting the HDTV slot on my tele permanently.

To be fair, the pros far out weigh the con...by a long way. Fair enough, the reliability isn't there for everyone..but everything else about the system is quality and to be honest i couldn't care less if i have to replace it every now and then (althought i'd prefer not to!).

Even if it happens outside the 1 year warranty...i'd kick up a major fuss and insist it is replaced.

My 360 died a week before the warranty ran out, it was a launch console. Currys replaced it and offered me insurance - it works out at about 20p a month, which is a bargain for the peace of mind it offers. If in doubt, buy a 360 from Currys.

This monthly fee goes on indefinitely btw. It's great that you never have to worry about your 360 dying, but if you forget to cancel there's a chance you'll be paying Currys 20p a month for the next 60 years! (that's where they get ya ;))

I thought that Alex was a fat bird in that watchdog vid.

Strange that as theres millions upon millions of ppl who are onto about 6+ 360's well inside their warranties, fair enough they are inside still, but to be on that many is ******* ridiculous, im glad i sold mine, you buy them to play on, not to keep sending back every couple of days/months when they decide to go **** up, no way was i gona do that, if mine had broke id have gone straight for a refund, anyone who keeps sending them back time after time wants their ******* heads read, failure rate is absoutely diabollical, and the things are still dying all ower the shop in their droves, those ppl on 6+ shouldn't be, they should have just said **** this and not bothered with the thing anymore after their 2nd died, how ppl can just send them back all the time is beyond me.

Made me laugh when everyone was defending it saying thats normal, it happens with new things, and as i said at the time yeah your right, im onto my 15th CPU etc.... :D

I mean come on ppl, how many of you have had your CPU, gfx cards dying every couple of days/months, you must be on a fair few now, anyone on about their 15th CPU etc..., can anyone say im onto my 7th GTX, no didn't think so. :D

I'm surprised my 360 is still going, it's been kicked, had controllers thrown at it and it's topped over a few times not to mention being left on for 2-3 days at a time.

Oh well it is a trooper. ;)

people keep doing it because, besides the stupid failure rate, it is an awesome bit of kit with a fantastic line up of games as well as xbox live. TBH i'm one of them people. if my 360 died again now its out of warranty and i couldnt get it workin again, i would go and buy a new one without hessitation :) simply because the 360 has far more games on it currently than the ps3 has that interest me. i'm not going to settle for a console i probably wont play much because the games arnt there that i want even though its failure rate is only a fraction of what the 360's is

There are a fair few more things that can go wrong with a 360 considering it is comprised of all of the components you mention there..plus a whole load more.

The red rings identify a hardware failure...it could be any of the hundreds, if not thousands, of individual components that are in there.

We don't need our heads checked for taking them back. 360s are great..really great. They provide a lot of fun and have brought together a lot of the OcUK forum memebrs for some top notch gaming. Some of us having to have them swapped is a hassle, an inconvinience at most, nothing more.

It goes wrong, you're without an xbox for a few days...hardly something people can't cope with.

Also, i think you should check your facts before 'informing' us that 'millions upon millions' of people have had to send x number of them back. :)
