can i buy a decent e46 bmw for £4k ?

This is the budget I have for a passat, with 500 left over for tyres and whatnot.

I have been looking at some e46's but they are all 2.5 litre auto's, with high mileage yet FSH. Im guessing the answer is no, but I dont mind being enlightened ?

Oh and its a serious question, not a dream.

also is the 320cd any good ? I understand petrol is best for a drivers car, but im more after comfort. Im a student with little income, but I do have some income, just not secure monthly.

thanks

Yes you can but unless you want a world of pain it'll be something like a 318i SE.

320Cd's only came out in 2004 so you wont get one for anywhere near £4k.

Given that really to enjoy BMW ownership you need £500-£1000 in reserve for when things go wrong, and that any £4k BMW probably has quite a list of jobs that already need doing on it, this is probably not one of your most clever ideas.

Ok. I should instead hang big BMW 530i posters on my walls ?

Damn, if only you'd have posted that before I began to write my reply, and I could have not bothered to give you sensible advice and just flamed you instead.

Technically you could but would have mega miles.

I sold my 2002 182k 330i sport for half of your budget last year. To a good friend though at that price. Still going strong and almost at 200k with only tyres needed since. Almost fully loaded, although auto.

Wonder if you can buy a new attitude for 4p ?

What happened to the emm free that you were offered by your mate for tuppence?

I love that you want advice on buying a BMW while persistently slating BMW owners.

When is it ban time for him? At least from motors.

For 2k?

mates rates and all that, needed rust in rear arch sorted and a damn good machine polish all over etc. Mechanically it was as perfect as could be as i never skimped on it. FSH, all suspension replaced at 175k, and i mean all the suspension including bushes. Was spot on and still went as well as one with 10k as other friend got one and mine was as good.

plus if i sold it too him for more and it went pop i would have felt bad....i dont like feeling bad, rather feel poor lol

For your circumstances the Passat you've got really is a pretty damn good car. Most students would kill for a 2002 Passat as a car whilst at Uni!

I wouldn't kill for one, but I'd certainly have one if I had to. So much better than a crummy little hatchback and not a silly cost car.

I still remember this hot girl i was dating years ago who had a fully loaded V6 passat....then she got new company car which was a facelift E46 316 or 318......we broke up straight after

200k now you say? Cool, glad its still going strong although at 2k you really did give that away! :)

Depress me why dont you both!!

Good friend though so i did not mind and he will look after it too. 250k i reckon is on the cards!

And Fox, you would have just nicked the sat nav and then sold it on, you know you would have!
