I have a simple question

I've spent less than 1k on my car in over 20k miles!

Was it a £4k 120k mile 8 year old one?

OH WAIT NO IT WASNT.

keep the irrelevent comparisons coming guys :D

Nice to see we've all fallen for hurfdurfs completely off-topic troll, mind.

It was not off topic nor was it a troll. The guy wants to change his car for something a little more adventuress, his personal situation is important to understand and judge whether or not he can do it.

Fox as you probably know by now, I don't even remotely agree with your point of "The less money you spend, the less car you'll get" but you've done a great job of disproving your own theory in this thread by suggesting that you would have been interested in a £2,000, 200K 330i. Surely going by everything you've ever said about cheap e46s, or cheap cars in general that 330i would have been such a dog it would come complete with a wagging tail?

The crucial difference about this 200k 330i is that its a car that I know the history of. I know for a fact it racked up a huge amount of mileage in a very short period of time with a very careful owner, and I knew the car when it was 4-5 years old with 120k as well (Jez is a friend of mine).

If it was a random 330i in the autotrader I'd run away screaming. But it wasn't - it was a looked after, cherished car which racked up its miles in the easiest way possible and was £2k because it was sold to a mate not because the owner wanted shot of it fast (Even with 200k its worth more than £2k in reality, hence the flurry of interest in this thread!).

A major part of university is the experience,
Uni is for learning, not being drunk, partying and wasting money, besides, you can do that at home too...

sure its expensive but for a 3 year holiday its worth it :p
No it's not, I keep being amazed by the stupidity of (Dutch) students who have a 15k debt after 4 years, how stupid can you be ?

15k can get you so much more than being a slacker for 4 years.

It's actually for both.

Nobody goes to Uni just to learn. Well, some do. They sit alone in lectures :p

I did actually, although I didn't sit alone, I already have a good set of friends from school I grew up with, still see several of them regularly, I didn't go there for an experience, to drink, to party or to make friends, I went to study and get a degree, of course there were a few people I got on with well enough but we never stayed in touch after uni. I still have the friends I had long before uni though.

15K for the 3 year Uni experiance and coming out with a degree is stonkingly good value for money, you will never ever be able to live again like that, with such little responsibility and such freedom, it can be the absolute time of your life.

If someone is not social and wants to get their head down and learn, fair enough, dont move out, same as someone who wants to save as much money as they can and purchase a nice car is their main priority, but claiming 15k for 3 years of what can easily be the best years of your life is not good value for money is ridiculous.

A student load is the cheapest loan you will ever have, it isn't like a 'real' loan to be honest, the interest rate is so low and the repayment requirements so relaxed you'ed be a fool not to take it, you could make more money that you pay in interest by taking the loan and sticking it all in a high interest account (well high is relative these days I know).

This is true, however, still not happy with the £200pm student loan payments coming out of my pay every month :(

SLC still arent taking payments from me - 5 years after I started earning over the threshold :D  - have tried to phone them but sit on hold forever, they even sent me a letter asking for my employment status a year ago which I duly returned but they still arent taking anything......they obviously dont want my money!

They shouldnt be taking anything like that much ? The maximum they take per month from everyone i know who has been to uni is £15 a month.

That must be because everyone you know doesnt earn much money, they must all be on about 16k a year to get that amount taken from them.

They take like 5% of monthly income, any more and you have to have specified it. Poster isnt happy so doubt hes specified it, so to take £200 a month he must earn £4k a month ? In which case hes rich enough to not worry about the £200 as hes paying it back quicker.

Something doesnt make sense there ?
