I have an intel value ssd - how to optimise?

I've got the intel 40gb x25-v ssd. The only things installed on there are windows 7 and drivers. I don't think I've got the latest drivers for the drive, I've just installed the ones off the disc.

I wonder what I should do to optimise it? Performance is good. Windows boots up in under a minute. In fact, it might even be under 30s, but I'm not sure.

I'm not sure what controller the drive is running off, but I've connected it to a 3gb/s sata on my Asus P6X58D-E.

I came across this TweakTwon guide:

http://www.tweaktown.com/guides/3116/tweaktown_s_solid_state_drive_optimization_guide/index.html

Is it any good? It recommends an SSD Tweak Utility and to enable 'God Mode' in Windows 7.

I'm considering getting a revodrive in the future as well and I'm just wondering how easy it will be to transfer windows files from this drive to that one?

Thanks

I generally head over to the OCZ forums for specific OS tweaks. It isnt specifically needed but will get the most out of your SSD in terms of lifetime and some marginal performance. TBH the tweaks were more needed in OS like XP that dont support SSD's, windows 7 is generally more friendly and you can get away without any tweaking really. I also prefer doing my own tweaks manually than using some 3rd party software.

Also Windows 7 godmode is just a shortcut folder left in by devs, it was available in vista also. Not exactly SSD specific just useful for getting to settings.

As for copying onto a future drive would be a case of taking an image of the drive with something like acronis, then copying that image onto the new drive. Although your best of just backing up any data and making a fresh install, its not like it takes long on an SSD neway.

Just run the tweaker in the new Intel SSD Toolbox. It will take care of disabling superfetch and prefetch. Disable any defrag schedule in Windows and you're done. Most of the other tweaks are optional and really depend on your own particular usage and don't necessarily apply only to SSD. You can get the latest storage drivers from the Intel site which will provide automatic TRIM.

  • Turn off Superfetch
  • Disable Indexing
  • Disable autodefrag
  • Disable System Restore (if you have another backup solution)
  • Enable Write Caching
  • Disable Disk Sleep
Did some reads up too , interesting stuff :D
