I HAVE PROOF THAT WITH WINDOWS 10 FREE UPGRADE IS CRAP

Try opening a CMd and typing "slui 4" this should force the phone activation screen.
Report back. I got on twitter and someone suggested this.

Tried this via automated telephone. Said my installation ID couldnt be verified and put me through to an operator. Made me jump through hoops with install ids again and product key, then error code, and ended telling me that the servers are screwed and to wait 24hrs.

Not sure what they are up to. If the servers are really screwed then why are they asking for all that info in the preamble. If the servers were borked then they would just say that from the start.

This give you the activation line not technical. Try it and see what happens.

I do feel I have already answered you if you look at my earlier post.

I have spoken to activation teams and they will just tell you that there is high demand at the moment and to wait for a couple of days for everything to calm down. After this it will activate itself.

It's been confirmed to me by Microsoft Tech support that the only way of re-activating in my case was to do the reinstall.

why are some people just believing what ms rap's/tech guys say? it cleanly states it in the FAQ and the EULA you can reactivate after a hardware change

As long as the cost is 100 or under, I'm personally fine with it. If it is 100 or more, then it's just nuts. People like my wife, whom have a laptop are just fine, as they will never upgrade any part that will cause a license to become invalid. For enthuthiasts that chop and change really often, it's a total pain in the butt if the OS is too pricey. Those that were technically savvy got on board with win 8 last time and got cheap copies that could be reactivated, so why couldn't they have done the same again?

Frankly, with all the quotation of EULA and rep chats, it still isn't clear on re-activations when swapping motherboards (or another main component that puts the license in question) and we probably won't know until people start to give it a go.

Heck... who's got some spare win 7/8/8.1 licenses that they can throw away but getting the free upgrade, then attempting to swap the motherboard out and reactivating?(or trying to put it on another PC) There has to be someone willing to give this ago rather than everyone making so making assumptions.

there already is afew people in this thread as tried it. but having problem trying to activate it...

my guess is not many people at MS knows how the activation/reactivation works yet. hence why the rap's/tech guys are making up **** and saying different things.

also your not throwing away your win 7/8/8.1 licenses. when you upgrade to win10 then if you don't like it or for whatever reason you can go back to your previous OS

Can you definitely go back to Window 7 even though I have done a clean install?

If so can I then upgrade this again to Windows 10? and get a new clean activation?

If this is definitely the case I guess I can go through the pain of reinistalling windows 7 and doing the upgrade again

I just don't want to complicated things if this fails and then I will be in a worse position

Can you definitely go back to Window 7 even though I have done a clean install? yes. after installing win7 you just may need to activate by phone.

If so can I then upgrade this again to Windows 10? and get a new clean activation? yes within in first year

that's what I've done on one of my pc's

Will it not say that this Windows 7 key has already been upgraded to windows 10 though?

If NO what stops people just using the same windows 7 key on multiple machines and doing multiple upgrades to 10 for free?

As mentioned a few times now, this has already been tried by myself and a few others.

With retail Windows 7/8 I can't see how you would ever have an issue. I have a retail Windows 7 Pro key and had to go back to Windows 7 due to a 'hardware' change. It worked with no problems at all and I didn't even need the phone activation.

With regards to OEM Windows 7/8 keys I would also imagine it's fine to go back. With a change of hardware things might get a little trickier but I would imagine a phone activation would do it. Again to upgrade back to 10 it will be fine within in the year as long as the previous activation is sorted.

Hope this makes sense.

They've rolled that privacy issue into Win7 or 8 in an update in May. You can disable it. I'm not sure that's a valid reason for staying with W7 or 8 now. That said nothing wrong with staying with 7 or 8 if it does everything you need.
