i just got dead space 2 but i'm so disappointed

Same here, really an inspiration to see this, Gareth. You have some skill! :D

I'm glad to see that your condition doesn't prevent you from enjoying games as a whole and I do hope that the support people here at OcUK and elsewhere give in petitioning and informing companies pays off so that you can play even more games. :)

I fully agree that we're at a point in time where the user should have the ability to configure the controls for a game however they wish. We all have different preferences and, as your case shows, different needs when it comes to gaming and indeed computing in general. You shouldn't have to purchase a game only to find out you're unable to play it due to control issues and, thus, have effectively wasted money.

Hopefully EA will take onboard the problem and sort it not only for Dead Space 2, but for any other games that don't allow the necessary customisation.

As a side-note, have you considered contacting the companies that develop those games that you haven't been able to sort the controls with and asked them to consider issuing a refund based on the fact that you weren't able to return them to the retailer because they'd been opened but could not have known that you would be unable to play the game prior to installing and trying it? I see the case as being different to the usual one, where people buy a game and find that it won't run on their machine because it doesn't meet the minimum spec.

I see that as being worth a shot, personally, although the ideal solution would definitely be for developers to allow full customisation of all control sets. :)
i totally agree

about 8 months ago i sent 3 emails to rockstar about GTA IV not being able to configer the driving controls to the right analog stick but they never replyed back....

so that was another game down the toilet....

Gareth.

Just read through the entire thread thanks to Gibbos link in GD. Got a lump in my throat and a bit emotional over it all.

You are truely an inspiration. I genuinely hope the devs note this and do something about it. And too note, if a donation was setup I'd happily chip in to you getting a better control system :)

Jake
thanks very much mate... :)

So how's it going Gareth, have you had any luck with any of the programs people have suggested. :)

I've also been wondering if you have ever thought about contacting PC Gamer or similar publication in order to raise greater awareness of how important customisation of controls is in all games?.
i got walk forward on the right button, fire on the middle button and use on left button... the other buttons i can't get working....:)

i thought someone has said they contacted other publishers?

Maybe you can map the other buttons to the arcade controller you spoke about and use your feet.

arc@css has sent off a few emails to Bethesda and Take 2. I was wondering if you had ever thought about contacting a games magazine like PC Gamer or similar magazines/websites. I was just trying to think of other ways you and us lot here could help get the message across.
yeah if u would like to contact some and i'll contact some?

I'm starting to wonder if the Toshiba sends signals that these programs can't interpret properly. Is it a five-button mouse that you have? Could turn in to an interesting bit of research for me over the next couple of weeks. :)
it has 5 buttons on top and 2 on the side. the 2 side buttons work in the programs but i can't press them has they are on the side. the buttons on top own work with it's own software but doesn't work with most games..
I'd be willing to get in touch with a few different publications and developers to bring this to their attention, too. I think it could work out as being quite effective if well-coordinated. :)
thank u mate, that'll be very helpful..

So who has awesome writing skills that could put together a top notch email that could be sent around. ?
im pants at writing emails..

we could use Lankio email

Hi,

I was browsing this thread over at Overclockers UK (http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=18236540) which turned into something I was not expecting. One of the posters on the forum is disabled and plays games using only a mouse which he controls with his chin. He is unable to play Dead Space 2 because he cannot remap the controls in the game to his mouse and other 3rd party applications don't seem to work. With it being the internet there were obvious doubters to his claim. His picture and video response (playing Fallout 3, Need for Speed Hot Pursuit and Dirt 2) was nothing short of touching and inspirational. What struck me most about this thread is not only the posters unbelievable skill playing these games, but also how he rises above the initial doubt to his claims. His attitude and videos in the thread probably opened the eyes of a lot of people leading to them trying to help.

I get so much enjoyment out of games, and the fact a simple thing like not being able to remap controls means he cannot play a game he has spent money on. Do developers do enough to help people with disabilities play games? Especially when something a lot gamers would find useful is over looked. I hope you guys at XXXXX might be do something with this that might help Gareth170 and other people in his situation that would like to enjoy games like we do.

XXXXX is where you put the name e.g gamezone.

That email would certainly make a good starting point. :)

It may also be an idea to include a link to the EA thread about it, to demonstrate that it has at least been passed upwards for potential consideration, and also the petition that was linked to earlier in the thread, which shows that there is significant support for this.
yeah thats a good idea.

he's also made a thread on EA forum (http://forum.ea.com/eaforum/posts/list/4761444.page) to try to see if they could sort something out for the game.

Okie dokie, I think we have one of those lying around in the office. I'm going to have a play around if I can find it and if I can swap the connections for those buttons over or write a program to allow you to use the additional buttons that don't currently work for you, then you can have it if you want it. :)
that would be great.

thanks mate.

has all this happened over night? lol

when i woke up and then checked my emails, i had 150 new comments on youtube and 1-2 new pages here..
