I miss Dayz days...

haha! No, there is nothing like that, it's still gear based like it always was although a little more in depth for blood testing etc.

They were the days. DayZ, Epoch, Overwatch, Breaking Point, RP, Origins, Taviana, ArmA 3, Standalone, even Wasteland mod for ArmA 2 - I played them all religiously everyday for months on end. I remember it as fondly as my CoD4 Xbox days. Now I've grown up and have responsibilities, don't even own a gaming PC anymore... Aw to go back.

It's definitely not a 'new' engine, it was a hash of the Take on helicopters engine mixed with A2. All the latest blog posts say is they've redone rain effects and fog along with a couple of lighting tweaks.

I would feel a lot better about the whole project if they just said they were going to leave SA where it is now and start again from the ground up.

Definitely not yet, but some of the early footage is looking very snazzy. And I would agree with you starting from fresh but it is a bit too late for that and they pretty much have built a new engine for it but just hasn't been merged with the legacy stuff.

As mentioned above, probably best to put it down and wait a couple of years/till release if you're losing the head with it.

can someone please explain how you install the mods as dayz commander no longer works or dayz launcher.

want to play overwatch and such.thanks.

I played it once after I got it cheap through Humble Bundle. I installed it, setup all the mods etc. Logged in, spent quite a while setting up the controls/keys the best I could, just got to a point where I could play so I spawned in and got put in the middle of no-where, started to hunt for loot but found nothing then this guy appears out of the woods.

I just stood there as I had no weapons or anything, he ran by and said 'Hello' in a German accent, ran about 20m's past me, then around and said goodbye, then shot me in the leg. I bled out and died.

True story.

As much as people slate standalone, those first few months where gaming gold for me and a few of my mates.

I jumped on Exile last night for the first time, even though it doesn't have zombies it still has that element of the unknown.

After knocking myself out on my first parachute attempt, I took the slow and steady approach the second time round. Spawning in Ballorta I was expecting trouble, but not to let this diminish my chances of finding some good loot, I made a run for the hangers and buildings on the far side. If no one took shots at me running across the airfield then it looked like I was on my own.

I was wrong, I was about to make my way out of the area when some guy just steps out of a building right in front of me we both freeze for a second, he takes the first shot which prompts me to react, unloading a clip in him (oo err). I take his gear and GTFO of there.

Heart was racing, I feel its these moments that make these mods and games great. Because the maps are so big, you think the chances of running in to people are pretty slim, so when it does happen, you are forced to make decisions very quickly.

This!!! -minus the no pc, cant be doing that. Its a crazy life as a Dad and we need out relax time!

Tbh those days were and always will be the best of PC life to date! I'm still playing Exile A3, tho it doesn't have the same palm squelching heart racing feeling as you no longer care so much about your kit.... We've all learnt rule number 1 "Dont get attached to your kit".
