I miss Dayz days...

Well it all came out there with H1Z1.. but ignoring that I wouldn't take your word for it because I've seen games take a decade to be developed - though the more median figure tends to be around the 3-6 year mark especially when considering a new graphics engine. I don't know how old you are but you are showing a distinct lack of historic knowledge here, just a few off the top of my head; Duke Nukem, Spore, Starcraft 2 - And these were not by medium sized indie developers - took around teh decade mark to complete and aside from maybe Starcraft 2 didn't have half the complexity.

Now if we are to be fair to DayZ it would require at least another year without going into the common definition of a Beta to be considered late.

Also, please show me any respected reviewer or website that says DayZ is dead/a scam/or any other negative twisting? I would genuinely love to see it.

Finally, comparing a mod and an unfinished game is like comparing a brand new car with a body-kit and a prototype concept. Concept looks prettier and likely to be more accepted but doesn't function well and the body-kit is more subjectively liked but runs just fine.

EDIT: By the way, DayZ SA has a 75% early access approval rating so I think it is you who thinks he has the mighty opinion.

You're forgetting that games that take a decade to be developed haven't usually been funded up front by gamers, this has.

Reviewers dont really bother covering it anymore either, whats the point? Its been done to death and each patch has been negligible for a while.

Except they didn't develop a brand new engine. It's slightly modified engine from Arma 2 and I have my doubts if it was even modified.

Listing a tiny selection of games, 2 of which were awful, awful on release. Starcraft 2 being exception but Blizzard are well known for taking their time on their IP.

I don't understand how it's legal to not offer refunds over day z standalone it's like legalized theft.

They took the money and ran, it's theft.

Not sure how you can judge the engine if it hasn't been released yet?

Like I said, it was off the top of my head and just examples, there are MANY others if you like I can start naming all the games that took 3+ years to develop. Even COD is getting a 3 year development nowadays as opposed to their two across three studios.

I didn't forget anything. Irrelevant where the investment came from; a company like BI couldn't afford a screw up like the three I mentioned because DayZ is the FLAGSHIP title, whether anyone wanted it to be or not. Also I guarantee you investors are a very fickle group so they would have a vested interest in the company maintaining some sort of reputation in the market. EA, Blizzard et al have a lot of financial fallback so they can afford such screw ups.

Right, E3 this year had everyone hating DayZ. For every supposed negative reviewer you can drum up I can find three others to disagree. Reviews mean nothing until the game is finished anyway.

I am really confused, what game are you talking about?

Day Z SA? Are you saying that the content they currently have running on their engine is simply a place holder before a brand new engine is being developed?

Pretty much yeah, the new renderer hasn't even seen the light of day yet. Some basic animation and physics have been merged alongside some network optimisations but the bulk of it is still within internal testing and only really beginning to be rolled out now in 0.59 and 0.6 later.

Check their status reports, but the most recent two months of them were quite informative about the progress in a vague way.

If it's same old clunky Arma 2 animations, inventory etc then it's not a "new" engine.

Shall check out some streams once the new engine is apparently released.

Agreed 100%, between the renderer, animations and infected AI the current engine is not even an improved Virtuality 3. And the UI reminds me of something from the 90s, nice nostalgia but no place in the final release.

If anything though, the renderer is starting to look promising;

It's definitely not a 'new' engine, it was a hash of the Take on helicopters engine mixed with A2. All the latest blog posts say is they've redone rain effects and fog along with a couple of lighting tweaks.

I would feel a lot better about the whole project if they just said they were going to leave SA where it is now and start again from the ground up.

^ It was a really horrid mash up of A2 and TOH that never worked. It would be better run on the A3 Engine.... or better yet making one specifically for it thought that has challenges and i don't see them perusing this genre anymore at Bohemia after how much of a public fail SA is

Agreed, I think BI didn't wanted it directly competing with A3 at the time of release, and since they don't allow any of the code to be ported to A3 under any circumstances either I don't think we'll ever see it on the A3 engine.

They made something like £20mil when it released didn't they? That must show there is a market for something like this that is done properly. I just wonder how long they'll drag out SA, they must be paying the staff to make all those hats!

The only game i have played and mates feel the same, you fear for your life hand sweats and heart racing, amazing game but its taking years to sort out in the right hands it could be the game of all games.

Will try it in another 2 years

Really wanna revisit this game.but fps drops so low and it hurts my eyes to stare the the screen when moving out or turning around haha

fps in the dayz mod seems pretty good to me. its on the epoch and overpoch mods that the fps drops more. that motion blur can be turned off by disabling postprocessing.

What do you mean by hot bar?

The mod now has very good performance (60fps+ for me) and a whole host of features taken from ideas that SA/Overpoch etc presented, boiling water, base building, knives blunting, matches depleting, weapon attachments etc etc. Well worth revisiting.
