I need an operation to remove a tumour

They're probably being a bit cautious with the risk figure, so it's probably less than 5%

My advice is to memorise some Shakespeare and start quoting it in your head just as they start the general. Apparently, you come round afterwards speaking from where you left off, and that will make you seem erudite in the recovery ward :)

Had some news from the Marsden - I need to attend another Scan on the 2nd Sept to make final preps for my opp. Turns out there will be at least 4 surgeons doing it - Professor Thomas, 2 vascular surgeons and a surgical asst...OMG..

Stay positive mate! Thats the best advice i can give you.
When i was three i had a rare form of cancer and my parents where told that i wouldn't survive. I however am still here. I received chemotherapy and radiotherapy. Later haveing major surgery to remove what was left. Nearly 17 years later and im still here.

In later life a new tumor was discovered in my chest and spine. After having a biopsy it was found to be not cancer however still needed removeing. It was around 15cm long and at its widest point nearly 11cm. This caused my spine to grow crocked and gives constant back pain. Unfortunately it was not possible to remove the whole tumour and some remains within the spinal cord to this present day. Surgeons did offer to remove this curing the majority of my back pain but the chances of me being pralized from the neck down where to high. Around 25-30%.

A year later a lump was found in my right testicle. I had a biopsy it was found to be just a infection.

So this is one are that im very familiar with. If you wish any personal advice please feel free to PM me and ill be glad to offer any advice.

Good luck! You're young and hopefully quite fit so you've got the best chances. The Royal Marsden is one of the leading cancer centres in the world, you're in good hands.

Holly mary mother of jane!

All I can say is that I hope it all goes well and you make a speedy recovery from the op. I wear my Livestrong band for people like you (I hope that doesnt sound too corny).

Hope everything goes ok, i can't really imagine what you'll be feeling at the moment. But it just made me think how anyone can call the NHS a bad thing. You're going to have 4 of the best, most highly skilled surgeons in the world working on you - you'll be just fine. These guys know what they're doing.

All the best to you sir, me and all the animals wish you a speedy recovery and a future so bright you have to wear shades.

/salute

Now less then 3 weeks to my op.

I'm off to bank some sperm tomorrow just in case the operation becomes a bit more expansive, i just hope i can perfom on demand.

In regards to pain i've had to up my dosage of morphine as its is still persistently nagging about.
Still keeping positive and hopeful it will all be over soon.

Quite a prudent move, was that recommended by your doctor?

I would have been horrified at your first diagnosis, I don't know how I would deal walking out the room hearing that. Quite a difference between the two doctors opinions!

Don't dwell on the chances, rest and eat well for the 15th and concentrate on getting better. Hope it goes as well as it can for you.
