I need Help with a first build

Yes the 660ti is good. Look up reviews, but it's in the ballpark of the 7950 / 7870. Usually, NVidia's are a little bit more expensive than the AMD equivalent for the performance. I suppose you pay for the badge, but they are good cards, especially the new Kepler 6xxx series.

The KFA2 EX OC 660ti looks quite good. I'd read reviews before deciding. The difference between a bunch of cards sharing the same GPU processor is the noise level and temperatures. Overclocking can be a bit better too.

This Psu is sufficient for your needs. Had to drop the fan to keep within budget. Also check with OCUK about the "B" grade cooler. Find out what the condition is and ask them to knock something off the price, seeing as they are asking the same as a new one.
The fan you can always get later, if you think you need better airflow.

I would not recommended the OP or even my worst enemy try that GFX card on that PSU.

Kaboom.

Is that common - specifically does it apply to Brunel or Open University? If so then that could save me a few £ too. (Trying to sort a pc for son to take to Uni).

Yeah its pretty common if your uni is enroled with the websites that do this sort of offer then they should do it. you do need to have a student id number though so it might be worth waiting until your son has his id before attempting to get the software.
