Hi guys, I really really need some help, this problem has persisted since I bought this system from OCUK about 3-4 years ago:

AMD Phenom(tm) II X3 720 Processor 2.80 GHz
8.00 GB RAM
300GIG HDD
2 x ATI Radeon 4850 (xfire)
Gigabyte GA-MA790XT-UD4P Motherboard
Corsair TX650W PSU

I also use:
G15 keyboard
Razer Naga mouse
2x monitors

It's been fine for the most part, but even when I first bought it, games like Crysis would completely freeze the whole system up. The screen would look like this:

And sound would loop really fast then stop after about 10 seconds.

I have checked the memory I have, I have updated drivers on EVERYTHING countless times. I have done fresh installs and I have tried getting a huge ass fan with the case open for extra cooling. And the damn thing can't run Mass effect 3 for 5 minutes without crashing.

I can play other games fines. BF3, Starcraft 2, WOW Darksiders.

But some games just won't run at all.

I really need some help, as this issue is driving me to my wits end.

This is a pic of the pc:

I'm pretty much begging at this point, someone must know how to help me :(

Hi there :)

Why didn't you return it to be repaired when you first got it if its always been a problem?

Run memtest to double check the memory is okay.

Try one GPU and see if its CF causing the issue.

At the time I just assumed it was EA games being ****.

I should have returned it, I'm kicking myself to be honest.

When you say:

Try one GPU and see if its CF causing the issue.

Do you mean physically take the GPU out?

Because I have disabled xfire in CCC loads of times and it hasn't made any different.

I've ran Memtest a few times too, and it didn't come up with any errors.

Okay,I'm running memtest again at the moment.

Once this has ended I shall post the results and then try and take a card out.

Would you leave the top on in? Or should I try and install the bottom one and see if it is the top one that may be causing the issues.

If you had a gut feeling about whats causing these crashes/freezes what would it be?

I'm really not sure. Just to check is this overclocked? It seems you've illuminated software. So something must be faulty. If several memtests have pasted I'd say a GPU is at fault probably.

Try each card on their own in the top slot

It was overclocked.

I reset it yesterday to see if it made any difference.

It didn't :(

Im at 40% of the memtest so far and no errors!

Thanks for the help so far!

When you say reset it, how? If the above doesnt work take the CMOS battery out for a minute or two then replace it and try again, this will reset all the BIOS settings to default.

No problem!

Well, this is were I may be stuck.

I reset it by loading the fail safe settings on the processor in the BIOS.

And can you point me in the general direction of the CMOS battery? :(

There should be a small battery [about the size of a 2p] on the motherboard somewhere. Probably behind one of your GPUs! If you reset to fail safe settings though I imagine taking the battery out would do the same thing

Well memtest is currently on pass 63% and no errors so far.

Can you think of anything else I can do other than trying each GPU separately?
