We now have a rule in our house that the wife is not to touch the dishwasher upon pain of death. It has caused far too many aggravating moments that it is just left for me to load it every time now.

My wife also does A. I mostly do the dishwasher as a consequence. I can see why some people might think A is better, but I organise mine so that it's really easy to unload i.e., plates in one section so that you can lift them all out at once.

Neither...... B looks better but as pointed out plates too close and bowls on top wont clean well. You need to use your brain and think where the water can get to when loading a dishwasher.

I thought as a bloke it was your sworn duty to make a pigs ear of packing the dishwasher on purpose so that the female of the house took it over for the sake of her sanity. You know, because kitchen = female stuff .

Plates shouldn’t have food on them before going in the dishwasher.

Actually they should. The dishwasher tablets need something to do or it'll end up staining your cutlery etc. Scrap most off and leave some for the detergent.

I'd personally do A because the plates in B look too packed and I would worry they wouldn't get cleaned properly.

Of the two I'd go with option A simply due to there being more space between the plates. I'd only have the plates so close if the dishwasher was full but that doesn't seem to be the case here.
