If you have a problem. If no one else can help, and if you can find them, maybe you can hire, The ATI Team. (INSERT A TEAM THEME TUNE)

We love you too Easy <3 :D (sig)

Well the X2 is the only thing really that's new and powerful. I know a lot of people don't rate this card though but I disagree with them all as this card is better/faster than the GTX. Great implementation from ATI to compete with the bad luck of support they got from DEVs. They worked away around a bought market which they didn't put the highest price in and that makes the X2 even more special. Especially when well over 50% I'd say over 70-80% of the games being endorsed with "The way it's meant to be played" logo which will favour Nvidia cards.

Right about what's around the corner. Well from the sounds of the new GX2 it doesn't sound great so far. Two PCB's, running especially hot so far from sceptical reports but what else do we have to go on?, prices floating around seem very high, SLI scaling not up to crossfire standards. I think it will beat the X2 and from the time Nvidia have had in the lead it bloomin' well should.

R700 and the elusive 9800GTX well there isn't enough information to discuss really but I will try to speculate. R700 might take the X2 design and then work on it with changing the AA resolve and getting to use that shader power "The way it's meant to be used" :p. That would really shake up the market if that happened.

The 9800GTX well I hope will have a very high core(G92), memory and shader speed at stock on a 384bit memory interface. I'm talking cherry picked G92 cores here (800Mhz plus+, 2000Mhz+ on the shaders). This should see it pull nicely away from the GTX and Ultra but in reality the new card should actually be a new card with all the time Nvidia have had to do this. Here's to hoping ;).

Can I use a 3870x2 in a A8R32-MVP Deluxe motherboard?

Aye. You have 2x 16x speed lanes when in crossfire mode. The 480i goes to 8x speed on the lanes in crossfire mode. So it would run on the old model too :).

Yep still own my launch day black PCB GTX :D

I did play with 2 x 640mb GTS but games too many games for my liking felt laggy even tho the frames were okay

6800 Ultra was released in April 04.

7800GTX 512 was released in November 05. The 256 was released in June so 14 months.

That's 19 months, 14 months isn't that long for a new graphics card.

I think it is because most of us jump between ATI and NVidia normally or even upgrade within the same series

e.g. I went 850xt > 7800gtx > x1900xtx > 7950gx2 > 8800gtx > (insert ATI card here? no ta :D)

Same, not changed my pc hardware for ages. My CPU is very quick and X3/48 has nothing I need or could make use of, had these 4gb tracers for ages and I don't need any more, 44% free of 400gb so I don't need any more space, my 8800 gtx copes with every game I have at max settings bar one (guess  ) at 19x12.

I haven't had the machine crash for ages!

What is going on?!

It seems I have reached zen for now in the world of desktops. I've since moved onto mad laptops and headphones. :p

My 8800gtx is defiantly the best investment to my pc hobby, ever. It would need another 7900gtx -> 8800gtx style move from nvidia or ati to move me from mine.

However I am getting tired of the current generation of recycled, shrunk and glued together hardware. The high end competition between ati and nvidia is currently really boring as the 8800gtx/u has been out for ages and the 3870x2 is hardly new tech and needs a few driver refreshes before it becomes a rock solid card. They both need to get back to slapping each other like in the x1900xtx/7900gtx days of old.

pegasus, edit your profanity.

I change my hardware when my current set of kit is feeling its age in terms of speed. While I would really like some new hardware gfx wise, I don't need it and the offerings look to be lame for some time.

That said, I really wish the Xonar D2X would hurry into the shops, I cannot stand this xfi any longer.
