I wasn't going to the British Grand Prix, but ...

The Engines sound absolutely fine, they don't pierce your ears or punch your chest like the V8s did.. however, they make far more interesting sounds!

The fans in the Grandstands certainly enjoyed them. They've made the racing fantastic to watch, sat at Luffield watching cars battle to see who could get the power down was superb.

Yep, I was at Luffield for Friday pm and quali, was hilarious watching at the end of Q1, they all skated off at the end of Wellington.

The pit walk on Thursday was great as well, thousands of people did it,

By any chance Spie, were you driving south from Silverstone today in convoy with lots of other shiny cars? Saw a couple of 599s with a few Lambos, Maseratis etc all cruise past!
Not me, sorry. I flew back to Switzerland today.

Leaving aside the engine debate the investment in facilities at Silverstone in recent years is amazing. The Paddock Club suite is now one of the best in the world in my opinion which is probably why it was so well attended on race day.

Back to the cars, the nose cones look OK up close and they really are incredibly complex in design.

There was a tangible air of despair in the Ferrari garage. Everyone is down and they know they are so far from where they need to be. I think this season has already been written off.

The track and facilities at Silverstone over the last 3-4 years have improved greatly, Bernie was right to get a deal done to extend, on the basis of the work needed to bring it up to date. Still a bit of work needed here and there, but it is a circuit to be proud of now.

Everything I saw was impressive. In fact it looks like a brand new circuit.

The thing I always remember about Silverstone was terrible traffic in and out. Has that aspect improved too?

You do kind of get used to the drone of the new engines. Then you hear last year's Red Bull car in the Legends parade and you realise just how much is missing.

+1

I was so disappointed with the new sounds, and when I heard GP2 it reminded me why and like you say the RBR in the legends parade just showed how dull the current engines are. Such a shame.

It has been the same since the changes some years ago now with the bypass and using diversions to allow more lanes in than out. I tend to only go on Fridays and it seems busier each year - I think people have caught on that for £60 odd it's not a bad days entertainment inc 3 hrs of F1 cars. Traffic was quite heavy but not sure what else they can do except some park and rides maybe.

Busy flying in? :p

I didn't expect to hear criticism from some of the team staff. Publicly everyone is saying the changes are good. Privately it's a different story.

The new engines sounded great, there were many different noises to be heard. The V8s were just all noise, noise noise noise. Ear piercingly loud!

Where were you seated for the day then Mr Men?

On my bum mostly :)

Woodcote for FP1, Becketts for FP2, Vale for FP3, Village for Qual and Luffield for the race, and the engines sounded crap if you thought they sounded great then so be it :)

Interesting, I was also sat at Village for Qually and Luffield for the race..

Each to their own tbh. I heard the V8s last year at the young drivers test, and eventually it all just gets too much.

Going off the email alerts I've got stacked up, Skeeter was slightly out of order but the opinion is valid. Spie is as close to royalty as you get on OcUK but I don't think censorship was warranted.
