I wasn't going to the British Grand Prix, but ...

So you will be one of the people pleased if the FIA change the rules to close up the racing because as long as you get good racing the rest is irrelevant to you? If it was silent I guarentee it would impact on the spectacle. How about you just turn the mute button on the tv and then watch a race. :p

Nice hyperbole. You can just put a backing track of some youtube engine rev videos if you want to be like that.

You would care if it was silent, so would the rest of the world. If people only cared about good close racing well then F1 wouldn't be where it is today because there are 50 other series people could watch for that which are far more competitive.

Agree on the noise. The noise is only a by product of the spectacle. I'm more interested in the racing. The cars could be electric and silent for all I care, as long as we get good action.

I went to the Donington Formula E test a couple of weeks ago, sat in the grandstand opposite the pit straight and you just couldn't hear the cars as they drove past, it was really really dull in that respect.

Yes it wouldn't have been as dull watching them racing eachother as more of your focus would be on the visceral side of things then, but it really was unbelievably flat.

Obviously I wasn't expecting anything different considering they are electric cars but the lack of sound, as though someone has pressed the mute button on a remote, was just a real turn off for me. Certainly doubt I'd be attending a Formula E race in the future :(

I saw more action, battles, and "lets try a different line to see if I can get him" through Luffield last Sunday than I have in the previous 10 years of Silverstone F1 races combined! All down to the power delivery and torque of the new engines completely changing how they take that corner.

Maybe I missed the point that people were unhappy about the way the cars handle? No they are talking about the noise they make, and considering in the electric prototype thread you told us you only go to F1 races for the noise it's rather strange you are now telling others that the noise is not an issue.

There was 2 lines through Luffield on Sunday, same as every other year btw.

Yep, its quite possible drivers will adapt.

Personally however, the noise is why I go to F1 races and don't just watch them all on TV. And people turning up to races is what provides the funds for them to happen in the first place. Other people have other views, but it wont take that many people to stop going to races because the atmosphere of the noise and the speed are gone before circuits have to start worrying about their finances. I seriously doubt I am on my own in thinking noise is a major part of motorsport.

I'd imagine in the environment of a close city track it would be a little different, on a big old-fashioned open circuit like Donington with nothing to contain any noise, yeah, it will be very dull.
