i3 6100 not good enough for BF1

Running an i3 6100 8gb 2400mhz ram and 1060 6GB in my wifes H110 Mini ITX rig, it runs BF1 at Ultra 1080p 80-90fps, DX11 mode of course as DX12 seems to give less performance. I saw it drop in to the 70s once but that's all. Great performance on a 144hz G Sync panel. It runs at 100% CPU and 90+% GPU utilisation so a good pairing.

Because of this I would says OPs problem is the GPU. The 1060 6gb I have is a bit more powerful than the RX470, but I wouldn't have imagined it would be that much worse. Maybe the AMD/Intel pairing isn't as good as when paired with an NVidia card?

A lot of people talk crap about the i3 6100 with no experience of it.

Good point, it's a proven fact nvidia perform better with lesser CPUs.

Defo worth a try. Benchmarks have shown DX12 performance is normally worse but nothing to lose in trying it out.

Here is a slide for Raven, he loves these....

Nvidia need high powered CPU's to keep the performance up, he has the right GPU in the RX 470 with a low end CPU, he just needs to switch API's :)

6600k is a waste if not overclocking. Get an i5 6500 from cex at 135 and run at stock or if you have z170 overclock it. There will be little in it with them both at stock.

I will be over clocking just not straight away as I don't have a z170 board yet. You say there will be little in it but don't the 2 extra physical cores makes a difference

I5 6500 is the same the 6600k just lower clocked and you can only overclock it under z170 with modded bios. I5 6500 is the best bang for buck.

Kind of bottlenecking the i3 with 2133 mems. z170 should have taken priority. Digital foundry has shown how the 6100 benefits from faster memory in CPU limited situations.

You can only do that on Z170 though right? My Asus H110 is running the 2400mhz I have at 2133, if I remember correctly.

The fascination of being the person who knows best is always an interesting one..

If we could all find something to agree on rather than constantly nit pick as a matter of opinion, maybe collectively as a community we wouldn't have Intel and Nvidia shafting us as hard as they do.
