In acme's chair.
This was on the MM a couple of years ago, sorry. :p

Might not have been that price, but the 2700K was £10 less than I sold the 2500K for. It does a comfy 5G as well. :D

can someone help me OC my 2500k? i tried once and it was perfect, last time i tried i messes the voltages and the pc started turning of and on itself loads of times in a row..
Scary moment :D
You can use this as a rough guide to voltages to use, it's what two of my 2500K's needed. On a Gigabyte motherboard you might need to up the LLC to Extreme, been a long time since I used one on a 2500K.

Below is voltages on my MSI Z77 MPower fully stable.

2500K: Batch No: 3138A838 (Costa Rica)
4.9GHz = 1.408 load (prime95), 1.408v load (IBT 2.54) 1.424v idle. (Manual CPU Voltage = 1.43v BIOS)
4.9GHz = 1.400v load (prime95), 1.42v load (IBT 2.54), 1.01v to 1.06v idle. (Auto CPU Voltage)
4.8GHz = 1.336v load (prime95), 1.344v load (IBT 2.54) 1.352v idle. (Manual CPU Voltage = 1.36v BIOS)
4.7GHz = 1.296v load (prime95), 1.296v load (IBT 2.54) 1.312v idle. (Manual CPU Voltage = 1.32v BIOS)
4.6GHz = 1.384v load (prime95), 1.408v load (IBT 2.54) 1.01v to 1.06v idle. (Auto CPU Voltage)
4.6GHz = 1.280v load (prime95), 1.280v load (IBT 2.54) 1.296v idle. (Manual CPU Voltage = 1.30v BIOS)

2500K: Batch No: L104A429 (Malaysia)
4.6GHz = 1.336v load (prime95), 1.36v load (IBT 2.54), 1.00v to 1.05v idle. (Auto or Manual CPU Voltage) (Maximum Clock stable)
4.5GHz = 1.328v load (prime95, 1.352v load (IBT 2.54), 1.00v to 1.04v idle. (Auto or Manual CPU Voltage)

I have a 2500k @4.2Ghz and a 1070

I game at 1440P CPU hits 100% the second I start BF 1070 normally at about 70 to 80% with medium settings

i was going to get a 1440p monitor, didnt because of that, must still look allot better then at 1080p. i got a good deal on a 32inch monitor,1080p...
Its not amazing, but it is huge and looks good, slight ghosting problem.. rest is ok

I think it was about 2 or 3 years ago I sold my 2500k for £80 and bought a 2600k for £100. Very cheap upgrade for a pretty big bump in performance.

BF1 1440p my CPU usage sits around 80-90% on all 8 threads on ultra settings.

This is why I'm looking to upgrade my 2500k @ 4.1.

Planet Coaster, all details Max at 1080p. Displayed below is a sandbox park with just under 4k guests. I get around 25-30fps. On big parks (Mainly from workshop I can get 16fps!)

I'm still toying with a Ryzen 1700.

I'd say it's time to upgrade, as I'm in the same position.

I've had a 2500k sitting comfortably at 4.4GHz for nearly five and a half years. A great life for what was a really inexpensive CPU at the time (£155 I bought if for!). For it to have held up so long for such an initial outlay shows what an outstanding chip it's been.

But... I've been through three GPUs in this time and now I'm pretty sure the ole Sanybridge is bottlenecking my 980Ti. I'm starting to notice a bit of stuttering and low FPS minimums I wouldn't expect with this GPU, so I'm already putting money aside for an upgrade.

Only question is going to be what to upgrade to. Ryzen provides some nice competition, and it's caused some downward movement in Intel's prices for the 7700k too. I think I'll wait to see what the Ryzen R5s bring, though. I have a feeling they may be the equivalent of the i5 2500k I originally bought for this iteration - but with 6 core and 12 threads. I'm really hoping it brings gaming performance in line with the top Intel chips. But if not, well, I guess 7700s will fall in price even more. Roll on the R5 launch!

Overlooking it is the most important thing imo, of you are at 4.5Ghz then gains by upgrading cpu with Rx 480 will be pretty minimal. If you use it for other things then gaming or want to upgrade gpu then definitely see a strong argument for upgrading the cpu.

Yeah, overclocked it's still capable enough. It is starting to show its age in some games in my experience, but I'm not feeling a massive urgency to upgrade. Quite happy to wait to see what R5 brings, and I don't see why most people with a 2500k wouldn't do the same.

But... the R7s look so shiny! So many threads! So new and enticing! And even though I generally have little time for brand loyalty, I do like the idea of owning an AMD system again. I've had Intel CPUs exclusively for almost 10 years - but this is only two chips (the Q6600 and this one) - whereas before that, in the days when Athlon XP/64 was king, I had some great AMD based PCs.

I will hold off, though (probably... maybe...)

Yea well I'm on a 2500k too and definitely upgrading this year. Liking the look of the 1700 and hoping what looks like teething issues are sorted in the next month or so and improve performance even more.

Hello, i have a i5 2500k do you guys think its time to upgrade?
This is gonna be a bit hard for me atm as im gonna to upgrade the cpu,mobo,ram?!
i use it for gaming only...
Atm i have this

I5-2500k
Gigabyte z68ap-d3 rev 1
16GB Ram ddr3 1600mhz
Asus Strix rx 480 8GB OC
well if you dont have enough for now, just wait and save up more, in the next 3 months, 6 and 4 cores ryzen will be released, price starting at 120$, mobos 350B under 100$, 8G of ram, everything should cost you around 300$.
and beside windows scheduler update should be there and most issues related to new architecture launch should be solved for ryzen, and would have better gaming benchmarks to decide what yo buy.

Tbh i dont have issues with games, only thing i do notice is on BF1, for some reason when i try to play on ultra it fails a bit? i have stuttering and some lagg.
Should a i5 2500k not oc'd paired with a RX 480 8gb be able to run this on ultra 60fps?
now i have a 32 inch 1980x1080 144hz monitor(got it yesterday,just a experimentation on the big screen material)

Had the same stuttering issue, Got a 3770k and it's smooth now.
