I miss those big MSN group convos :(

Hahaha :D

I remember those. Good times.

I would move up to i7 / i5 but my Q6600 is handling everything I'm doing now completly fine. Only thing I'm gonig to have to worry about is graphics and more / bigger hard drives. :D

Maybe if there was a decent cheap matx then I might be tempted but until then... I'm sticking with my Q6600.

I was just commenting on what James Gorbold wrote in the bit-tech.net review . . . that rjkoneill linked! :D

It's the first slightly negative comment I've read all day on the i5, everyone else is gushing! :)

Its partly true tbh.

When you think about it...The i5 is overpriced in terms of CPU agaist the might of the 920

I mean 49 quid more gets you one.

Worth seeing 8 threads in device manager for... no? :p

All I know about the new tech is what other people tell me, I'd be happier to have all the kit over my gaff and get some hands-on experience but thats costly and time consuming . . .

So picking through the info that several kind journos have written I am getting the impression the Lynnfield has some good things about it than Bloomfield doesn't . . .

For one it seems to be a more power efficient chip, not important to everyone but it's something that sways me. If what I am reading about Lynnfield's ability to power down unused cores is accurate then that really does end the dual vs quad debate once and for all. The turbo feature looks much improved and moving the PCI-E controller onto the chip seems a pretty cool idea.

The one negative thing I read about the i5 is that it doesn't overclock that well without a voltage boost whereas the Bloomfield i7 has quite a bit of overclocking headroom at stock voltages.

I dare say this Lynnfield is the closest thing to a perfect chip I've seen for most people, it's got the ultimate power saving features and its self overclocking, if you think about it us overclockers may become redundant soon!

Even off the promo deal you're still getting a cheaper rig with around £100+ saving. Give it a few weeks we'll see the gap widen further. I5 is more smiles to miles :D

You not made a firm decision yet easy

It is.

But i9 path open,HT,Full 16x16 pci-e etc...

its a 40 quid saving per item getting i5 over i7

Its not enough really

You have to look at the bigger picture with them though, the mobo are cheaper, dual channel is cheaper if you buy the right bang for buck kit. It all adds up.

For the tiny performance differences I'm going to put 120 towards a new 5870 at the end of the month
