Run one under a H50 quickly and the faith balance is restored

EDIT just remembered you don't have the 1156 plate :(

point taken - myself and Yewen do our very best to find the most unnecessary cooling solutions you can find
the reason we didnt do a run on air is simple
there are no high end air coolers available for the socket as yet and i mentioned that an EK supreme would fit

It may not be high end but it does state it fits for 1156:

Arctic Cooler Freezer 7 Pro Xtreme Rev 2

This lot is staring out of my basket at me! I'm going to take a look at the MSI deals tomorrow, and if I don't get hold of one of them then it's adios, £450!

A little disappointed by these results the i5 should not be that far behind the i7 but that's super-pi and it's memory dependency for you.

Need to see some raw cpu benchmarks too please :o

the gigabytes need a little work doing to the bioses, but the quality of the boards are excellent - i have seen the ud4 up close and it is a cracking piece of kit
also tested the ripjaw memory, you are in for a treat!

Thats good to hear :). Just have to wait on the 1156 bracket for my H50 now :(

Ck88 - That's much more like it :p

Rich - Cheers for running with the one fan at a low speed, this gives me hope. I don't suppose you've had a play with the boards that MSI will be offering at a discount have you?

4.5 is very very impressive...what do you think it can do on air though? And am I right in thinking that you can get the Phenom 955 to hit 4.0 on air?

on GOOD air cooling i reckon 4.2 is achievable
i literally got that stable on the beta bios on my second attempt

Any knowledge of the cheaper Gigabyte boards rjkoneill? Particularly looking at the UD3 myself - in my experience Gigabyte boards clock pretty nicely, but what are they like in the lower price bracket? From the pics it doesn't look like there's a whole lot of stuff to deal with heat; is this going to be a problem?

Or is the £115 Asus the best to go for in this price range?

EDIT: Cheers for the clocking info by the way, looks amazing! Think it's made up my mind to break my wallet and go Intel :D

i tried the UD2 and it clocked really well - another easy 4ghz
i would consider the ud4 if you can stretch - its a great board
my pick of the gigabytes so far on price/performance/features

i have emailed corsair now asking for one

Your email didn't go like this did it?

Dear Corsair,

Rich from OcUK here. Send me an 1156 bracket for the H50.

Payment as usual in the post.

RJ

:p lol :D admit it...you are pals with someone over there arent you...

i will NOT order this i5 for some reason is:

i7 cores is the best one! 8 threads is the best one! full stop!

bulldog - you have i7 - chill out

i5 isnt aimed at you!

I don't suppose you've had a play with the boards that MSI will be offering at a discount have you?

i havent - but Yewen has
i would do the following board wise

Asus Deluxe for big clocks/bells and whistles
Giga UD4/UD3 for VFM/performance balance
MSI for a mega cheap upgrade

Can't say fairer than that for comparison across the boards... :D

WOW very nice but will look forward to test's down with, Prolimatech Megahalems , True, H50 when possible.

Why didn't you do a quick run with the Arctic Cooler Freezer 7 Pro Xtreme Rev 2 CPU Cooler (Socket 939 / AM2 / AM2+ / 775 / 1156 / 1366)?

So why have the MSI boards not been listed yet?!

cos they have them for special discount and if you notice most places are not showing them on their site until the day of launch itself (or rather the time as I think its 2pm for launch, who knows)
