bulldog - you have i7 - chill out

i5 isnt aimed at you!

i havent - but Yewen has
i would do the following board wise

Asus Deluxe for big clocks/bells and whistles
Giga UD4/UD3 for VFM/performance balance
MSI for a mega cheap upgrade

You're a star, cheers for the replies :D

Looks like I'll have to hold off on the upgrade until I'm back from my upcoming holiday. Give my wallet chance to recover and let the "early adoption tax" fade away, then go for a board I want rather than a tempting offer.

WOW very nice but will look forward to test's down with, Prolimatech Megahalems , True, H50 when possible.

Why didn't you do a quick run with the Arctic Cooler Freezer 7 Pro Xtreme Rev 2 CPU Cooler (Socket 939 / AM2 / AM2+ / 775 / 1156 / 1366)?

well i saw that - and then i saw a quad radiator
if i only did air cooling results, you wouldnt be impressed
so i decided to go all out and use the most ridiculous cooling method i had available :D

the other coolers will get tested as brackets become available

but realistically a waterblock was the only [good] pre launch cooler i could get my mitts on

So why have the MSI boards not been listed yet?!

tomorrow morning - there should be full details up
around 8:30am/9:00am ish

Wait where did all the F5 traffic go ?

Right then, get to bed boys ... Early start in the morning.
(I should be able to win over the scruffy student types, their clocks hardly register AM)

Thanks rjk for the benches ... keep 'em coming

I'll go one up on you, I won't sleep :p

i will try to get some 3d benches in
but my department is busy at the moment so i need to concentrate on that

if i can stay behind after work for a few runs of vantage and 06 then i might

if i find anything interesting in the next coulple of days, you know i will be sure to post :)

on a personal note...
wouldnt mind having a go of the EVGA forthewin :p
but that board is nearly classified money!

What's the word on the cheapest Asus board? The Gigabyte UD4 is a little out of my price range, but I could stretch to the Asus one at £115...

Mnnn Nice Speeds and Temps but is WaterCooling I won't change my q6600 runing 3.5Ghz on Air.

Very Disaponited that the i5 is only 4 threads someone who really need CPU Power put a little bit more money and buy a i7 Setup (for games my q6600 is the same as my i7 with same Video Card)

but the discount won't kick in till 2 pm i right?

If it's an introductory discount then it should be indicated from the moment they are listed otherwise section 1.2 of the Consumer Protection Act kicks in and it could get a bit messy.

Asus board is the better clocker and is cheaper. :)

MSI boards that I used are very poor clockers and the board quality is quite low.

Asus have the launch on this one with the P7P55D & Pro being the two boards of choice.

Hmm good chip the i5 750, this is going to be a very popular IMO.

I'm confused that EVGA think that an i5 should have a £280 motherboard though when you can get a rock solid LGA1366 board for £200, seems they missed the point of the Lynfield platform.

Anyway I'm still very happy with my 4GHz i7 920. Thanks Rich :)

Edit: I see the price of the EVGA board has mysteriously dropped by £100 ;)

Quality looks normal for me. Just seen one being unboxed, and I've seen the GD80 push a I5 750 to 5GHz which seems a first for the I5 anyway..

Seems to me that the i7 920 is a much better deal for us overclockers and gamers, not costing much more than an i5 setup, plus you get X58 with supposedly better gfx performance, and the chip performs better, albeit much more power hungry.

I don't think I'll personally ever upgrade to LGA1156, seems pointless unless the fully featured boards come down by a lot. I read that Intel was working on new CPUs for LGA1366, so not much of an upgrade path?
