i7-920 can not get to 4GHz

Do you mean the setting turned pink? Thats because you are going above spec. Don't worry about that.

Ok lets try something different.

Set your baseclock to 191 and your cpu multi to 21.

If/when it BSOD, take note of the code at the bottom.

yeah as webbo says the crash code will help a lot. BCCODE, it will be something like 124 which means vcore etc etc. Yeah webbo mate i know 2.0 pll is a little high, its just one of the many things id tried when going from 3.8 - 4ghz stable. Its a ballache getting that last 2 isnt it.

Thanks for the help and the confidence to let the BIOS go beyond spec

As my daughter is 5½ weeks old I have to go and perform fatherly duties, so I will continue this tomorrow. So far though 14 min stable!!

thanks again

I haven't needed it to be 2x the memory multiplier, I would leave it on Auto for now as 4GHz isn't exactly asking to push it to the limits regarding setting tweaking.
I've always found (on mine) lowering the memory multi to 6 makes it easier, once you're over 4GHz stable then you may want to try and tweak it when set at 8, but IIRC I did some memory tests a while back for the i7 in dual and tri chanel at speeds from 1200MHz > 2000MHz with no real benefit from the higher speed.
I would try a 21x multi with 190+ BCLK and concentrate on QPI and vcore tweakings first.

Wow This has made me Realise how good these New SandyBridge Chips are :O

on 1.24v (Stock) i can get 4Ghz. 30C idle 50-52 Under Prime with only a Artic Cooler! :O

I Hope you get your CPU to 4Ghz mate :) Good luck!

Any reason why you need to get 4GHz?

I managed to get mine stable at 3.8GHz with the vcore set to 1.16v.

To get it stable at 4GHz I had to bump that to 1.34+ and the temps were quite high.

200MHz less isn't that big a deal :D

Multiplier set to x21 blk set to 191, QPI 1.375 and Vcore 1.375 temperatures will hit 81ºc maximum

With 1.7 pll I'm getting temperatures around 70ºc

with 1.6 pll it was stable for arond 20 mins
