i7-920 can not get to 4GHz

so what should I set the Vcore and the Qpi as a starting point?

Also what about DRAM Voltage... should I set it to 1.64 or 1.66 or leave it on Auto? The System Memory Miltiplier (SPD) is 8.0

Also what about these:
QPI clock ratio - Auto
Uncore clock ratio - Auto

Should I set them to something else other than Auto?

Also how do you take the 'screenshot' of the bios like didgemaster is doing?

Thanks

I usually start at 1.35v for both and go from there.

Leave them on Auto.

If the memory is rated to 1.65 I'd use 1.66 to be on the safe side.

I'm guessing he copied and pasted a template and just edited his settings. Remember however that using someone elses settings isn't really going to do much, not all CPUs or motherboards are made equal. You just take it slowly and tweak your voltages unti it is stable.

yeah, unfortunately the problem is... I haven't been into windows for more than 10 seconds... either it freezes or automatic restart... no bsod... so completely lost

Drop the memory divider to its lowest setting so you can rule that out, up the vcore to 1.375 and set QPI to auto. See if that does the trick.

i said it before, but try your qpi pll at around 1.18, i found for 4.2GHz i could drop my qpi voltage by about 0.05v by simply playing with qpi pll - it's your golden ticket to lower overall temps :)

First time it ran prime 95 for about 15-20 mins and then rebooted... i tried to re run prime 95 after it rebooted and it rebooted again after 30 seconds.

What settings can I adjust to gain stable 4Ghz?

Thanks

All the settings look fine, just keep bumping up vcore until it is stable.

1.25v is pretty low for 4GHz unless you have quite a decent chip.

what about qpi?

1.3V is enough for QPI?

Also, how much should I increment Vcore at a time?

Thanks

Edit - increased Vcore to 1.275V and it freezes when entering the account password...

Go lower, higher or modify another setting?

Good to know, I'll give that a go as this current 920 doesn't like low QPI. Did you find going any higher than 1.18 helped?

It is impossible to say, all CPUs vary. Start with both QPI and Vcore at 1.35v and see what happens, you can always tweak them down if it is stable.

As for increments, if 1.35v is stable just go down one increment at a time (- key) until it is unstable.

ok so far trying to increase only Vcore...

QPI - 1.3V
Vcore
- 1.25625V - 8 min prime95 then automatic reboot
- 1.26250V - 7 min prime95 then automatic reboot
- 1.26875V - 9 min prime95 then automatic reboot
- 1.27500V - freezes during entering password at welcome screen

I will try setting both qpi and vcore to 1.35 and see what happens

Lower the memory divider to its lowest to rule out the ram.

Also untick automatic restart in the advanced system settings if you haven't already.

ok ram set to 6.0.. voltage to 1.64... uncore left at x16

auto restart was off as well... thing is i never got a bsod lol

QPI set to 1.34 and Vcore to 1.35 again...

Im beginning to lose hope tbh... this is my first time overclocking and so far its a fiasco!

Stick the Ram Voltage at 1.66, leave uncore on Auto. Put QPI voltage on Auto as well.

I assume temps are ok?

Just keep at it, if you get frustrated just turn it off and come back to it later. Overclocking is usually a lot of small tweaks and lots of testing/waiting.

will try the above settings whenever the pc freezes again :p

Right now running my last post's settings .. stable for 15 mins and going...

should the memory divider be left at 6 instead of 8? and what is the difference?

Also right now temps are a max of 85 degrees on two cores and 79-82 on the other two cores

Edit... prime 95 started test 2 and temps jumped to 88-89 on two cores and 81-85 on the other two... is this normal? :/

not yet, i've only increased it slightly when trying to go higher that 4.2GHz, but i need a stupid increase in Vcore (not so much in QPI) to get it stable at 4.5GHz, plus temps go mental (probably helped by the current heatwave).

slightly off topic: to get it higher i'm going to split my loops again, having 3 gpus and mobo/ram watercooled on the same loop is not helping cpu temps at all :p

the difference between 6 and 8 is 6xBCLK and 8xBCLK = ram clock :D

temps are fairly consistent with this heat imo, not sure if you've mention but how are you cooling this?

It's in my sig ^^

Antec 1200 case every fan on high setting for good airflow, prolimatech megahalems with push fan attached to the cpu.

Update:

So far 42 mins stable under prime95 and temps settled between 85-87 degrees.

What should I do now? Keep stressing it or begin reducing the QPI and Vcore? If the latter which one should I reduce first? Also what about the RAM divider? Leave it at 6 or back to 8?

Or should I try these settings that speed suggested:
Stick the Ram Voltage at 1.66, leave uncore on Auto. Put QPI voltage on Auto as well.?

Thanks and sorry for all the questions :/
