ICE Help

Does anyone know how good those FLI subs are?

My mate's got 1 in his boot and it sounds pretty decent tbh.

I just need to find out if I have a dedicated sub out on my HU. If I haven't, I can use the phono out on my amp in the boot can't I?

people do realise you can turn the gain down on your sub amp not just turn it up ;)

if you set the sub to take care of the low end stuff and filter your mids tweeters you will be able to go a lot louder, and if you adjust the gain correctly on the sub you can get a very decent no boomy sound.

I found paying more for a quality amp for the sub gave a more refined base, these £50 40000watt cheapo jobs will make it sound all boomy and flappy

how do you mean power off the head unit?

the sub will need an amp as can't be driven off speaker outputs from a head unit

I'm going to get a Sub today and use the power off the headunit. I'm also going to get some tweeters for the front.

Good idea?

Not really.....UPGRADE THE FRONT SPEAKERS FIRST...

Makes me laugh :D :D ..you asked what to do first then do the opposite lol..(not having a go its your money just saying thats all :) )

My HU has a dedicated "SUB OUT". So can this drive the sub?

that will be the rca out puts to connect to sub amp.

no head unit would ba able to power a sub directly as the shear size of the coil needed to moveteh large cone requires too much power than a head unit could ever put out.

you can get cheaper base tubes etc that will take a speaker output into an internal little amplifier that powers the cones.

personnal I would do this

spend £120 on decent mids and tweeters up front and power from your head unit

get a monoblock (mono amp) amplifier like a JL Audio and a sealed box with 10" cone (again jl audio are reasonable. The amp will conect to your RCA sub output on your head unit

I know some may argue the contary but with this setup you can dispose of the rear speakers as not really needed

So basically I'm going to need a new amp........

I have seen these bass tubes and they look pretty good. Getting good reviews off them too.

I forgot to mention I would be using an active sub not a passive. :p

they can be good for the money, but that is the key, they will never be as good as an amp and sub setup, but if you have a limited budget they would be the way to go as the real cheap sub and amps from alfords etc will probably sound rubbish

Well I went to a local audio shop as it is pretty well known and a lot of people I know rave about it.

They £225 to fit a 12" Active Fli Sub.

That includes cabling too.............hmm, the sub's only £80.

They? 'wanted'? 'installed'?

Post doesn't make sense.

i guess it depends on what they are doing for that money. if its a custom box to give maximum performance while saving space in the boot, and is specific for your car then it could be worth it.

if its just a generic box, sub, cables and labour then thats a shocking price.

ICE is one of those things that you get what you pay for. Buy cheap stuff and it will show when you turn the volume up.

It was a 12" Fli Sub. Nothing custom about that :p

Plus the cable pack at £35:S

The guy tried to make it sound like a difficult job (Its not an easy job you know, cables have to be laid, the sub has to be anchored)

And?

the custom bit was about the box, not the sub ;]

theres quite a bit to building a proper box for the sub and the bootspace. DRZ will tell you that im sure :p
